Bill Van Dine passed away today after a long battle with cancer.  Bill held 
a distinction which will never be eclipsed. Bill played fastptich for 17 
seasons, including appearances in two world tournaments.  Known for his wry 
sense of humor and comical wit, Van Dine kept the sportswriters on their 
toes with his timly quips.  For NINE consecutive years (1961  1970) he was 
the tournament director (spelled "heart and soul") of the International 
Softball Congress World Tournament when event was held in Rock Island, 
Illinois.  He also served the ISC as Florida Area Commissioner from 1989 - 
1993.  He was inducted into the ISC Hall of Fame in 1992. Retiring in the 
late 1980's to the Sunshine State, Bill and his wife Marie moved back 
"home" to the northern Illinois.  Funeral arrangements and calling hours 
will be announced at a later date.
