Men's Softball Day 1
Sunday August 14th, 2005
Rambler Park

Day 1 Highlights
British Columbia vs Manitoba
Pitcher Tyson Barkman (Abbotsford, BC) and
catcher Bryan Abrey (Richmond, BC) led their team
to a big win over Manitoba. Both players were
key members of Canada's Bronze Medal winning team
at the 2005 ISF Men's World Junior Championship
earlier this summer in Summerside PEI. Abrey
went 3-4 with 2 runs scored and drove in 1 run to
lead BC to a lopsided win over Manitoba. Abrey
also contributed defensively picking off a runner
at 1st base and retiring a runner attempting to
steal 2nd base. Barkman went the distance
earning the win and striking out 11 along the way.

Saskatchewan vs Alberta
Alberta battled back scoring 2 runs in the bottom
of the 5th inning to secure the come from behind
victory over host Saskatchewan.

Quebec vs Ontario
Quebec relied on the long ball hitting 5 home
runs to defeat Ontario 12-4. Pierre-Hughes
Lavallée (Sainte-Claire, QC) had 2 home runs,
Étienne Patry (Saint-Charles, QC), Maxime Breton
(St. Gervais, QC) and Mathieu Vermette
(Saint-Charles, QC) all had 1 each. Quebec
starter Pascal Gonthier (Saint Damien, QC) went
the distance and struck out 9 Ontario batters.

Nova Scotia vs New Brunswick
Donnelly Archibald (Aspen, NS), also a member of
Canada's Bronze Medal winning team at the 2005
ISF Men's World Junior Championship, pitched a
gem for Nova Scotia. Archibald went the distance
earning the shutout victory, allowed only 1 hit and stuck out 13 batters.
