Eau Claire, Wi

Jarvis Merchants doing well in Eau Claire Wisconsin.

This is their first trip to the International Softball Congress
annual big show, the World Tournament, this year being held for nine
days in Eau Claire Wisconsin. 38 of the best club teams in North
American and two from Europe are meeting where the clear water flows
for nine days to determine who has the best men's team in the world.

Jarvis, with many players just a year or two out of junior qualified
for this annual tournament back in Ontario along with the Kitchener
Hallman Twins and the Innerkip Bright Cheese House Eagles, all fellow
members of the Schneiders I.S.C. Alliance, Travel League of Eastern Canada.

Driving all the way from home, through Chicago at high noon, the team
got here on Friday just in time for to register and attend the
manager's meeting where their coaches learned some of the rules
associated with the tournament.

In their first ever game in a world tournament, on Saturday at
4:00pm, the young Jarvis team met an experienced team from New York,
NY, aka Massapequa, NY, who until recently had been a modified
softball team. A modified team of some renown who had picked up a
couple of world class fastball pitchers to augment their seasoned
position players. Patsy's has Marty Grant from New Zealand. Grant has
been on a couple of gold medal wining ISF teams with the NZ Black
Sox. Other pitchers include well known Robbie Scheller, a sometimes
modified, sometimes fastball pitcher; Reno Lata, Darren Rae, and
Heinrich Shannon, another Kiwi fastball pitcher.

Jarvis scored early on Patsy's in their world tournament debut,
putting one run in the second and three runs on the board in the 3rd
inning. They added an insurance run in the sixth inning, which turned
out to be the winning run as Patsy's came on strong and brought in
bottom of the seventh inning. What a surprise, the new kid on the
block had won their first ever game at a world tournament. Scott
Wagar got the win for Jarvis, with young flame thrower Andrew Phibbs
getting the save. Rob Scheller went the distance for Patsy's. Mark
Colemen, who plays right field for Jarvis started things off in the
second inning with a solo home run.

In the third inning, a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck,
equaling a lot of hard work, produced three un answered runs to make
the score 4-0 after 3 innings. Capitalizing on a hit batter, a single
by Greg Courneyea, two wild pitches, a single by up and coming short
stop Ian Fehrman and a single by the most seasoned veteran 2nd
baseman, Adam Smith, the team found themselves with a 4-0 lead.

A double play wiped out the hard work of Courneyea and Fehrman who
had each singled, but again veteran Adam Smith to the rescue with a
solo home run.

Patsy's scored 3 in the 7th but when it was over, the rookie Jarvis
Merchants found themselves winning their first ever world tournament game.

On their second outing, the team had all the confidence in the world.
They met Vandalia, IL, The Freight. Monday night at Eau Clair's
Carson Park, Jarvis fought all the way, getting two runs in the
second inning and some more comfort with a single run in the fourth.
They held Vandalia scoreless all the way and in the 7th inning Jarvis
came on like gang busters and added 8 more runs for a 11-0 win.

Young ace Andrew Phibbs went the distance on the mound for Jarvis.

Fehrman and Smith each contributed each, 2 hits, 2 runs, and 3 RBIs.
Each had 5 at bats.First base Adam Robinson added 1 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBIs.

The team are now 2-0 and play again at noon on Tuesday against the
highly regarded Fargo ND, Kegal Black Knights.
