ALBERTON - The Ancaster Cyclones went into Friday’s action at the 2005
Tignish Credit Union Bantam Girls Eastern Canadians Championships here
facing an uphill battle of playing three times along with an opening
ceremony to attend. They did just fine.

The Cyclones, who were 1-0, remained undefeated and secured at least a spot
in cross over action with three wins on Friday, but none of them were easy.
Ancaster (Ont. No. One) spoiled Jane Hurst’s 10 strikeout game as they
topped Dartmouth Diamonds (N.S. No. Two) 13-1, handed P.E.I. champion
Cornwall Cougars their second straight loss 14-5.Ancaster then squeaked by
the Summerside Stingers 3-0 in a game that saw Taylore Matheson of the
Stingers pitch solid while Kayla Worth broke up the no hitter in the fifth
inning.

Cornwall remains in the hunt for a playoff spot, while the Stingers need
some help if they are to make it to further action. Cardigan (P.E.I. No.
Two) and the host West Prince Cavendish Produce Athletics have been
virtually eliminated with one game left each. West Prince is 1-3 while
Cardigan is 0-4.

The Sud-Ouest Dragons (Que. No. One) kept their perfect streak alive with
two wins on Friday including a come from behind 9-8 win over the Cougars
after trailing 6-0 at one point. They also beat Au P'tit Mousse Péninsule
Acadienne 16-1 in three innings.

Ontario No. Two Kingston Autohouse Kobras have almost certainly assured
themselves a spot in Friday’s playoffs with 7-0 and 15-2 wins over
L’Express du Laval (Que. No. Two) and Cardigan.

Meghan Micheau played hero for the Dartmouth Diamonds as they earned their
first win as they ended the championship with a 3-2 win over Au P’Tit (N.B.
No. Two) as the sun set in the bottom of the seventh. Micheau, named Greco
player of the game, went 4-4 with three doubles, a triple, driving in all
three Diamonds runs in the process.

The co-host Cavendish Produce Athletics picked up their first win of their
tournament thanks to homeruns from Ashtin Arsenault and Erin Gaudette en
route to the 9-2 five inning win. The Stingers also won Friday, taking it
7-0 over Dartmouth Diamonds (N.S. No. Two) on Karen Gallant’s one hit, four
strikeout performance.
