Laval, Judique advance to semifinals

at Bantam Girls Eastern Canadians

Ontario’s Kingston Kobras, Ancaster Cyclones secure bye with perfect 5-0 
records

2005 Bantam Girls Easterns

ALBERTON, P.E.I. - L’Express du Laval and the Judique Celidh Royals have 
both guaranteed themselves a medal game at the 2005 Tignish Credit Union 
Bantam Girls Eastern Canadian Championships here after picking up crossover 
wins Friday afternoon.

Laval beat a fatigued and tired Sud Ouest Dragons (Que. No. One) 15-7 in 
the Dragons’ third back to back to back game while Judique made it 
following an 11-strikeout performance from 14-year-old Holly Denny in a 3-0 
shutout of P.E.I. Champion Cornwall Cougars.

L’Express will now meet Kingston Kobras at 9 a.m. while the Ancaster 
Cyclones will take on the Royals at 11 a.m. The bronze emdal game goes at 1 
p.m. and then the championship gets underway at 3:30 p.m. Awards and all 
star winners will be announced following the game.

Also Saturday, the round robin finished up as Chelsa Lidstone and Ashtin 
Arsenault teamed to lead the West Prince Cavendish Produce Athletics to an 
11-2 defeat of Cardigan; Whitney Desarmia hit a grand slam to blow it open 
as the Kobras downed Chaleur of New Brunswick (N.B. 1) 8-0. Laval ended the 
round robin with a 6-2 win over Chaleur; the Cornwall Cougars mercied Au 
P’tit Mousse Peninsule Acadienne 9-2; Ancaster downed Sud Ouest in their 
second game of the day 12-8 before the Dragons edged the Summerside 
Stingers 7-6 to eliminate the Stingers thanks to a Raven Meloche game 
winning RBI single.

For Laval, Marylin Cloutier (3-3, three runs scored, triple, double, two 
RBI), Joelle Doirion (3-4 five RBI, two triples), Alex Voyer (2-4 two runs 
scored, double, two RBI), Stephanie Page (2-3 run scored, RBI). For Sud 
Ouest, Krista MacLeod (2-4, double, two runs scored, RBI), Brianne Alfred 
(2-4 runs scored, RBI), Carolyn de Grosbois (2-3 double).

WP - Melanie Provencale (7 IP, 7 hits, four strikeouts, seven runs allowed)

LP - Carolyn de Grosbois (5 IP, 12 hits, two walks, four strikeouts, nine 
runs allowed); Sabrina Loiselle (2 IP, four hits, one strikeout, six runs 
allowed)
