CENTENNIAL SPORTS CLUB
The Centennial Sports Club of St. Thomas was
formed and incorporated in 1967, Canada's
Centennial. The main objective of the Club over
the years has been through its support of minor
sports, the encouragement of the youth of St.
Thomas and the surrounding area in Elgin County
to participate in any and all sports. Now in its
38th year, the non profit Club currently has 135 active members.
In the past five years alone, the Club has
donated over $100,000 to sports organizations
including minor and junior baseball, minor and
junior fastball, minor and junior hockey, minor
soccer, minor basketball, minor football, youth
bowling, ringette, girls hockey and "Special
Olympics" to name just some of the groups. As
well several charities have also benefited from
their contributions including The Canadian Cancer
Society, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The
Canadian Diabetes Society, The Sunshine
Foundation, Christmas Care and the Pinafore Park
Memory Gardens. The Club is also the major
sponsor for the annual Minor Hockey House League
Christmas Tournament and the annual Childcan Golf
Tournament with all proceeds going towards
research and treatment for children with cancer.
Centennials credo is that through the Club's
contributions, all youth, who so desire, shall

YOGIisms
..
are quotes of Yogi Berra, fabled catcher of the
New York Yankees, who was also famous for
fracturing the English language in provocative,
interesting ways. Perhaps his most famous was
during the 1973 National League Pennant race: It aint over til its over.
Regarding a restaurant that had become very
popular, Yogi cited that Nobody goes there anymore because its too crowded.
When managing the 1960 New York Yankees who lost
the World Series We make too many wrong mistakes.
