IN THE STANDS
Friday night the large crowd in
attendance realized that the St. Evergreen
Centennials Thomas vs Kinkora O’Shea’s Pub and
Eatery Hitmen game had significant impact on the
final standings – a Kinkora win would have
produced a 7-way tie for 2nd spot with seven (7)
teams posting 5 wins/3 losses records. The final
standings had a 5-way tie for 3rd spot, with
Saskatoon Aspen Interiors Black Sox awarded 3rd
on the run differential record (formula included
maximum of 7 for any game, and games had to have
only “full” innings played in the formula). No
team could be eliminated from “double life”, or
from the tournament based on the formula, hence,
the five tie- breaker games that were played
yesterday. Friday turned out to be a great day of
competition, and not simply an open day before
Friday evening’s double – header of the top teams
who earned “double life.” Great job by the
Softball Canada officials in determining the
“Tie-breakers Schedule” on Thursday night, and
the local Host Committee’s well-timed
announcement informing fans before they left the
park
. And out of town fans were informed almost
as quickly as Dan Denniss up-dated the 2005
Canadians website, and fervent fastball fan Al
Doran, the guru of international softball
communications, spread the word on Al’s Fastball List. Well done everyone!
