OSHAWA, ON



The defending champions of the Oshawa City and District Fastball League, 
the Aurora Shoeless Joe's ( 3 ), have been vanquished to the sidelines by 
the Cobourg Diamond Kings( 6 ). Cobourg , in the three game series, took 
both ends of the double header in Cobourg yesterday at Legion Fields by 
scores of 4 - 3 and 1 - 0.Both games were very tight as the scores implied.
In game one the Kings Jason Benne with relief help from Wayne Wells, 
outduelled Rick Green of Joe's and in the second game Wayne Wells took the 
decision over Todd Martin.
Both pitchers struck out 10 batters. Cobourg will wait for  a semi-finalist 
challenger from one of the other three series.

Last Tuesday, pitcher,Rick May of the Lake Simcoe Lightning( 5 ) nipped 
Newmarket's Mudhens Fastball ( 4 ) 2 - 0. Greg Delgarno suffered the loss. 
Newmarket visits Lake Simcoe tonight in game 2 at 8:30.

John Batten, of the Toronto Champion Indians ( 2 ), battled for 9 innings 
as his team nudged past the Oshawa Ravens ( 7 ) 6 - 5. Phil Yahn took the 
loss and the Ravens hope to even the series at 1 game each as this series 
resumes tomorrow night at Oshawa's Durham Fields.

The Stouffville Menno's( 1 ) shutout the Claremont Rebels ( 8 ) 6 - 0 last 
Thursday in Stouffville as Byron Baranieski was the winning pitcher. The 
Rebel's John Sharpe was charged with the loss. Game two will be in 
Claremont when possibly Paul Koert will pitch for the home side and Scott 
Evans will attempt to help the Menno's sweep past  the Rebels to advance to 
the semi-finals with Cobourg.
