The Niagara Snappers captured the 2005 GHFL Championship going 4-0 on the
weekend outscoring their opponents 24-4. This marks the 5th tournament of
2005 won by the Snappers and leaves the Snappers with a record of 61-18
with 1 tournament left to play. Dan Duemo was named the GHFL league Most
Valuable Pitcher for the 2nd year in a row and was also named 2005 GHFL
playoff tournament MVP. In ISC, GHFL and tournament play, Dan Duemo
pitched 226 innings this year and struck out his 300th batter of the season
in the championship game, ending the year with 305 Ks and record of 33-7
and an ERA of 1.95.

Game #1 saw the Snappers defeat Waterdown Keiths 2-0. Dan Duemo picked up
the win with Jim Wilson hitting a solo home run to provide all the offense
the Snappers would need. Todd Dawdy had an RBI double to put the second
run on the board.

In game #2, the Snappers took on the Mississauga Arrows and came away with
a 4-0 victory. Perry Bartley pitched 4 strong innings to pick up the win,
with Dan Duemo coming in to clean up the final 3 innings to record the
save. Scott Young and Trevor Falk each had an RBI for the Snappers.

In the undefeated game, the Snappers mercied the 2004 GHFL Champion
Hamilton Hawks 8-1 in 5 innings. Dan Duemo pitched the complete game to
pick up his second win of the weekend striking out 9 batters along the
way. Scott Young homered to power the Snappers offense while Mike Bateman
and Dan Bernard had 2 RBI's apiece.

The Hawks worked their way back into the championship game where the
Snappers then pulled out a 10-3 win in a 5-inning mercy. Trevor Falk and
Kevin Newhouse each homered in the win, with Falk missing hitting for the
cycle by a single. Newhouse contributed 3 RBI's and Falk 2 RBI's in the
win. Dan Duemo once again toed the rubber and went the distance in the win
to leave him with 3 victories, and 1 save in the 4 Snapper victories.

The Snappers will now take 3 weeks off and finish off their 2005 season by
attending the Millgrove Smoke tournament at the end of September. The
Snappers will be lead on the mound by Byron Demoe and 2005 All-World
pitcher Rob Fawcett of the Port Elgin Blue Devils who has played in a
couple of tournaments with the team already in 2005. Dan Duemo will be
taking a much deserved break for the rest of the season.
