Softball Canada Athlete Nominated for 2005 NCAA Woman of the Year
September 15th, 2005

(Ottawa) - The NCAA recently announced the 10 finalists for the 2005 NCAA
Woman of the Year award, one of the most prestigious honours the NCAA
bestows. Softball Canada Women's National Senior team member Janiva Willis
(Irishtown, NB) is one of the nominees.

Senior National Team head coach Lori Sippel on Willis being nominated. "I
was very happy to hear that Janiva Willis was named South Carolina’s NCAA
Woman of the Year and a top ten finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year
Award. Janiva is a part of the Women’s National Team Player Pool and her
nomination for this award not only reinforces the fact that she is a fine
softball player but more importantly, an excellent student, citizen and
ambassador for the sport of fast pitch softball."

The award recognizes senior student-athletes in intercollegiate athletics
for their outstanding achievements in athletics, academics and community
service. The finalists were selected from 352 entries by the Woman of the
Year Selection Committee. The winner will be announced at an awards dinner
on Saturday October 29th in Indianapolis.

Willis recently competed with Canada's Women's National Senior team in the
2005 Canada Cup as well as the inaugural International Sports
Invitational. Willis played for New Brunswick at the 2001 Canada
Games. In 2001 she was also recognized as Softball New Brunswick's Female
Athlete of the Year.

Willis was also recently recognized as South Carolina's NCAA Woman of the
Year. As a member of Winthrop's softball team, Willis set new all-time and
season records and was an active volunteer in the local community while
