Minesing Wins 2005 SRFL Crown



In a closely contested series that seemed to have a little bit of 
everything in it, the Minesing Monarchs outplayed the Wyevale Tribe and 
captured the 2005 SRFL Title.



Game 6 went on Thursday night, and by virtue of a 6-5 victory, Minesing 
took the series 4 – 2.



Minesing jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when a Tribe 
error led to 2 unearned runs on in infield single by Jamie Grant.  The 
Tribe got things rolling in the 4th when a solo homerun by Mike Kelly cut 
the lead in half.  The momentum quickly shifted back to home team however 
when the Monarch’s rallied for 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the 
4th, making the score 6-1.  The inning was capped off be a mammoth 3 run 
jack by Minesing’s Keith Rankin.  The Tribe did not back down, and scored 3 
runs themselves in the top of the 5th inning.  Again the long ball was the 
story as Tribe member Graham McNabb batted in all three runs with homerun 
to centre.  In the top of the seventh a leadoff single by Mike Kelly was 
cashed by a 1 out double by Jason Giffen.  With the score 6-5, one out, and 
tying run at second Minesing hurler Kurt Glover took over striking out the 
next two batters to preserve the win.  Both Kurt Glover and Jason Giffen 
went the distance, and pitched well at the key moments within the game.
