Softball Canada's Women's National Team Moves to 2-0 at Nebraska Fall Classic
October 12th, 2005

(Ottawa) Canada's Women's National team moved to 
2-0 at the Nebraska Fall Classic
following a prevailing 8-0 win over 
Creighton.  Canada also defeated Creighton earlier
today by a score of 4-1.

Auburn Sigurdson (Surrey, BC) earned the victory 
appearing in 4 innings of play,
allowing no hits, runs or walks.  Sigurdson 
struck out 4 batters.  Robin Mackin
(Newmarket, ON) appeared in 2 innings of relief; 
Mackin allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, and
struck out 5.  Canada was led offensively by 
Sheena Lawrick (Calgary, AB) who went 2-3
with 2 RBI, 1 HR, 2 runs scored, and 1 BB.  Erin 
Gee (Vancouver, BC) contributed, going
3-4 at the plate with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored.

With 1 out and 2 on in the top of the 1st inning, 
Janiva Willis hit an RBI single up the
middle; Willis would then score on an error by 
the catcher.  Sheena Lawrick who was
intentionally walked earlier in the inning scored 
on a pass ball.  After half an inning
of play, Canada was up 3-0.

In the top of the 4th inning, with the score 4-0, 
Erin Gee hit a 2 RBI single scoring
Erin McLean (Whitby, ON) and Danielle Pappano 
(Bolton, ON).  With 2 out Lawrick hit an
RBI single to left center field that scored 
Gee.  The score was 7-0 after 4 innings of
play; Canada would add one more in the 6th inning, making the final 8-0.

Softball Canada's Women's National team's next 
action at the Nebraska Fall Classic is
Friday at 5:30PM against Colorado State 
University.  They will then face Michigan on
Saturday and finish off the tournament with a 
double-header on Sunday afternoon against
Nebraska.
