New Black Sox manager focussed on maintaining success
Sunday April 2nd 2006

The challenge of taking over the management of the world champion
NewZealand Community Trust Black Sox and maintaining the winning
run is notsomething Wayne Small is taking lightly.

Today Wayne Small has been named as the new NZCT Black Sox managerthrough
to the 2009 World Championships replacing Grant McCarroll. A
NewZealand Army Warrant Officer Small says the opportunity to
be involvedwith the champion NZCT Black Sox team was too good
to miss.

“I have worked closely with Grant McCarroll on a professional
level overthe years and he is a friend and I have seen the joy
and satisfaction hehas had from being manager and part of a winning
team,” saidSmall.

While the role of manager in a sports team can often be a thankless
taskSmall believes any successful team requires another team
of organisersbehind them ensuring everything is organised and
in place.

“Behind any great team there has to be a team of workers aswell.”

Coming into the role Small takes over with the Black Sox as three
timesworld champions and he says he will be working hard to ensure
the teammaintain that winning success.

“My main focus is to see the NZCT Black Sox continue winning
and that Ido everything to the best of my ability to ensure we
win the worldchampionships in Canada in 2009.”

Small has served in the New Zealand Army for over 22 years and
currentlyfills the position of logistics planner. He is married
to wife Kerry andhas two daughters Olivia and Rebecca.

The new manager Small was introduced to the NZCT Black Sox team
duringtheir training camp in Lower Hutt this weekend and he will
travel withthe team to Japan at the end of this month for the
Pacific Cup Series.Grant McCarroll will also travel with the
team to Japan to ensure asmooth handover process.
