Spijkenisse, The Netherlands April 15th 2006 


Haarlem, The Netherlands based DeMo EHS travelled to Spijkenisse
for their opening day double header against newcomers Spikes.
With Canadian pitcher Glen Moreland (Richmond Hill, ON) still
out with an injury, Czech National Team pitcher Martin Svoboda
 and former Fedlock Falcon Darren Davies arriving in May, the
Demo EHS roster consisted of ten players but this didn't affect
their performance at all. 

Line score game 1 (innings = runs - hits - errors) 

DeMo EHS: 2-0-0-3-0-0-0 = 5 - 12 - 0 
Spikes: 0-0-0-0-2-0-0 = 2 - 3 - 0 

Pitchers (K-BB-H-E) 

DeMo EHS: Erwin Visser (w) 7 inn 10-2-3-0 
Spikes: Arjan Baanen (l) 7inn 7-2-12-1 

DeMo EHS started this game well with a lead off single by Jeffry
Visser followed by a sac bunt by Anthony Beaumont. Michel Groenhart
came through with a RBI single to left field on which Jeffry
Visser scored. Groenhart himself moved to second on a fielders
choice and moved to third on a hit by Eric Zomerdijk. Rookie
Dave Hazel got his first RBI of the season when his single to
center field scored Groenhart. 

In the third DeMo EHS added three more runs when the exploded
on a lead off triple by Zomerdijk, another RBI single by Dave
Hazel followed by the second triple off the bat of good old Pim
Winkel. Winkel then scored the third run of the inning on a RBI
single by pitcher Erwin Visser. 

Spikes was only able to do something back in the bottom of the
fifth when they scored two runs. Erwin Visser take control over
the game again and ended in style with a strike out.

DeMo EHS: 0-7-0-2-2 = 11 - 11 - 4 
Spikes: 0-0-1-0-0 = 1 - 2 - 0

DeMo EHS: Eric Zomerdijk (w) 5 inn 4-1-2-4 
Spikes: Arjan Baanen 2inn 1-2-6-0 
Spikes: Titus Blom 3inn 4-3-5-1 

Homeruns: 

Michel Groenhart (2xsolo) 
Anthony Beaumont (Grand Slam) 
Jeffry Visser (solo) 

In game two DeMo EHS used the long ball again when they exploded
in the second inning. Eric Zomerdijk got on base on a hit by
pitch and was brought over to second on a hit by Etienne Meijer.
Zomerdijk scored on a single by Pim Winkel and Meijer moved to
third. Meijer then scored on a single by Erwin Visser. Bases
got loaded when Maurice Maijer was walked and catcher Anthony
Beaumont came through big when he hit his first career big league
grand slam homerun! 

Michel Groenhart followed Beaumont's grand slam with a back to
back homerun which scored the 7th run of the inning. Spikes got
one back in the bottom of the third but Michel Groenhart hit
his second HR of the game (solo). Dave Hazel scored another run
in the 4th on a walk, two passed balls and a sac fly by Eric
Zomerdijk.  DeMo EHS completed its batting rage with a solo HR
by Jeffry Visser to left field and a run by Maurice Meijer on
a RBI single by Groenhart. 

Both games showed a complete team effort with 23 hits in 12 innings
including 4 HR's, three triples and a double. A team batting
avg of .418 over two games. The pitching staff worked hard and
kept the Spikes team on only 5 hits. A great debut in the big
leagues by Dave Hazel hitting 4-5.
