Greater Ottawa Fastball League 2006 Season

Ottawa, ON

The Greater Ottawa Fastball League 2006 season kicks off on Weds
May 10 with six teams vying for the championship. Playoffs
are scheduled for early August, with the first round best of
three (3 vs. 6, 4 vs. 5), best of five semi finals, and best
of five finals, with the league champion facing off in the regional
finals vs. the Upper Ottawa Valley league champ.

The league website is http://ca.geocities.com/fitzroyfastball/GOFL.htm.
Schedule, results and contact information are all available on
the site.

Team Easton: Team Easton is looking to win their fourth straight
league playoff title this year, after downing Stittsville in
the 2005 finals. Dan Konkle will again be the main thrower for
Easton, with veterans like captain Kevin Chevrier (All World
infielder at the 2005 ToC), Dave Tubman, Randy Peck, John Peck
and Todd Fraser anchoring the squad. Team Easton will play Wednesday
night home games in Stittsville until the end of June, when they
will play Tuesday nights in Stittsville. The Ottawa Team Easton
Thunder ISC II tournament team is ranked #6 in the continent
by the ISC and will be participating in the eastern Ontario ISC
II qualifier.

Stittsville 56ers: Stittsville were playoff finalists in 2005.
Dan Bradley is the top pitcher for the 56ers. Key position
players include captain Sam Oliver, Scott Herriott, and Dan Jessiman.
The 56ers will play home games at the "Grove" in Stittsville
on Wednesday nights throughout the year. After joining ranks
with Team Easton for tournaments in past years, Stittsville will
be entering the ISC II qualifier on their own and should be one
of the favourites.

Manotick Lomor Printers: The veteran Lomor squad, who finished
at the top of the GOFL regular season standings in 2005 return
for another season. Senior pitcher Jason Smith will be joining
Manotick (mostly for home games only), complementing lefty Trevor
Lahey and team captain Tony Riches. Position players contributing
to Lomor's success are Mike "Pudge" Branchaud, Calvin Medynski,
Lindsay Medynski, Lyle Schell and Adam Bickell. Lomor will play
home games in Manotick on Wednesday nights and have entered the
ISC II eastern Ontario qualifier. Manotick will also be hosting
their own tournament June 2-4.

Fitzroy Harbour West Carleton Electric: Fitzroy Harbour returns
to the league for their third season with essentially the same
squad as the 2005 edition that finished second in the regular
season and finished second at the OASA Men's Intermediate Provincials.
Bud "The Spud" Hanlon, Brad Porter and Mark Wright will hurl
for the 'Trics. Returning position players are Troy Wilson DP/Util,
Neil Murphy 1B, Trevor Barton 2B, Michael Cavanagh SS, Shawn
Rebertz 3B, Steve "Beef" Johnson C, Jon Daley OF, Jason Armstrong
OF, and captain Adam Brown OF. Todd Clouthier IF/OF, who will
join the team full time this year, and newcomer Steve Cavanagh
OF/P will replace two departing players. The WC Electric play
their home games on Wednesday night in Fitzroy Harbour in front
of the best crowds in the league and will host both the league
showcase on July 16 as well as the eastern Ontario ISC II qualifier
on June 16-18.

Carp I4C Victory: I4C Victory is a new addition to the GOFL
this season, comprised mostly of players from the Glen Cairn
League. Teams under the I4C moniker have had success in the
past at the Elkland Labour Day tournament and should fit into
the calibre of play in the GOFL quite easily. Providing the
pitching for I4C will be sponsor Neil Cooke and Trevor Wood,
with Shawn Williams managing the squad. I4C Victory will play
their home games at the Carp diamond on Monday nights. The team
will also be entering the eastern Ontario ISC II qualifier.

Ottawa Blitz: The Ottawa Blitz have also joined the GOFL this
season, moving over from the Ottawa RA League to bring the total
to six teams. The Blitz fared well in tournaments such as the
2005 OASA Men's Intermediate Provincials, and wanted to move
to play in the competitive Greater Ottawa league. Jamie Blakely,
Derrick Bulley, and Jim Blakely will handle pitching duties,
with captain Scott Dumouchel leading the squad. The Blitz will
play at the Manotick diamond on Wednesday nights, and will be
hosting their own tournament at Carlington Park in Ottawa on
July 21-23.
