Keating's Fitness Center from Wilkes-Barre, Pa. finished tied
for 3rd Place in the Baumann Memorial Tournament over the Memorial
Day weekend. They finished with a 2-2 record.
 
Keating's opened up the tournament with a 4-1 victory over Budweiser
of Erie. Winning pitcher Dave Stokes only allowed a 7th inning
run while striking out 5 and walking none. 

Mark Smith led Keating's at the plate going 2 for 3 with a triple,
a single and 3 RBI's. Frank Keating Jr. doubled and scored a
run. Mike Keating, Bret McHenry, and Toby Ranck all singled.

For Budweiser Russ Cooley had a double and Justin Cevette and
Bryan Miller had a single each.
 
The Midland Explorers pounded out 10 hits in their 8-2 victory
over Keating's. Winning pitcher Doug Gillis struck out 5 batters
and had no walks. 

Steve Horning was 3 for 4 for the Explorers. He had a home run,
2 singles and 3 RBI's. Craig Crawford went 2 for 4 with a double
and a single.

For Keating's, Frank Keating Jr. was 2 for 3 with a double, a
single and a run scored. Mark Smith blasted a 2 run homer, and
Greg Garrity contributed a double. 
 
Keating's had to come from behind in a must win situation to
defeat the Scarbarough Wolverines 3-2. With the win Keating's
advanced to the semi-final game in the Baumann Tournament.
 
Down 2-1 in the last of the 6th inning, Frank Keating Jr. blasted
a lead off homer to left center field to tie the score at 2.
Greg Garrity followed with a single. Justin Stock ran for Garrity
and advanced to 2nd base on a wild pitch with no one out. Dave
Stokes hit a long drive to left for the 1st out, but the throw
to 3rd base went out of play allowing Stock to score the go ahead
run. Scarborough did not threaten in the 7th as winning pitcher
Bill Hillhouse retired them in order. Hillhouse had 7 strike
outs and didn't allow a walk. 

Keating's was led offensively by Frank Keating Jr. with a 2 for
3 effort. He had a home run and a single. Bret McHenry was 2
for 3 also, with 2 singles and a run scored. Greg Garrity and
Kevin Smith chipped in with a single each.

Steve Mullaley was a perfect 3 for 3 for Scarborough, all singles.

Heflin Builders beat Keating's in the semi-final game of the
Baumann Tournament 6-1. Brian Urquhart pitched a 2 hitter to
pick up the victory. 

Losing pitcher Greg Garrity accounted for the only run of the
game for Keating's with a 2nd inning solo home run. Justin Stock
had a single and 2 stolen bases for Keating's.

For Heflin Steve Schacker was 2 for 3 with a double, a single
and 3 RBI's. Ed Leonardo was 2 for 4 with 2 singles and an RBI.
 
Keating's was led offensively by 1st baseman Frank Keating Jr.
with a batting average of .417. He had a home run, 2 doubles,
2 singles, scored 2 runs and had a SLG of .833 Greg Garrity had
a .375 Avg, a home run, double, single, 2 runs. .583 OBP, .875
SLG. Mark Smith batted .333, had a home run, triple, single,
5 RBI's, 2 runs, .889 SLG. 
 
Bill Hillhouse led the pitching staff with a 1-0 record, 12.2
IP, 11 K's, 1 BB's, 2.30 ERA. 
 
Keating's over-all record is now (8-2). The next weekend of games
for Keating's will be the Travel League at Willow St. June 16
- 18.
