Owen Sound Crunch 9 Lumber Kings 2


The Lumber Kings opened the scoring in the second when left fielder
Darryl 
Gall singled and scored on a triple by first baseman Derek Grice.

Grice had 2 triples in the game for Clifford.

In the bottom of the second, the Crunch exploded for 5 runs to
take a 
commanding lead.

Bill Ottewell had his first of 3 singles in the game, and came
around to 
score on a Clifford error.
The Lumber Kings made 4 errors on the night.

Andy Ruff had an r.b.i. single to score pitcher Garrett Baker
and give the 
Crunch a 2-1 lead.

Another error and a passed ball by Clifford allowed the Crunch
to score 
three more to grab a 5-1 lead.

Clifford scored in the third when right fielder Tim Zabel singled,
went to 
third on a fielder's choice and scored when shortstop Kent DeBruyn
launched 
an rbi scarfice fly.

In the bottom of the third, Ottewell scored again. He singled
to get aboard, 
and rounded the bases on singles by Jason Redmond and Chris Barfoot.

Redmond appeared to make it 7-2 for the Crunch, but the umpires
ruled he 
left the bag too early on an apparent sacrifice fly from Mike
Majury which 
ended the inning.

The Crunch got 3 more in the bottom of the 4th.

With Ruff and Troy Barfoot aboard on errors, Tony Lisk drilled
a triple to 
the rightfield fence. Lisk scored on an r.b.i. single from Baker
to make it 
9-2.

With the score 9-2 after 4 & 1/2, both teams elected to waive
the " mercy " 
rule and continued to play, since both teams needed the work
due to 
inactivity in the early portion of the season.

However. there was no further scoring and the Crunch won it 9-2.

Thursday, the Crunch travel to Wiarton to face the Thomas Norris
Busmen.

Game time is 8:30 at Bluewater Park in Wiarton
