The Doug Gillis Softball Academy sponsored a doubleheader last
night that featured the new Women's Professional Team - the Michigan
Ice - playing against the Venezuelan National Team; and the Midlad
Explorers vs. Bernie's and Mike's Tavern (Homer, MI).
 
In the opening game, the Ice lost to the Veneuzuelans 3-2.  Gillis
Academy intstructor Jenny Mackson took the loss for the Ice who
will continue their season of touring with games against the
Canadian National Elite team in Midland this weekend.  The Ice
plan on joining the WPSL in 2007.
 
In the 2nd game, the Explorers scored 2 runs in the bottom of
the 6th for a 2-1 victory.  Dave Frick walked, Kyle Beane tripled,
and Steve Roberts hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning
run.  Bernie's scored on an unearned run in the 5th.

LP - Bryan Boyd - 7K, 5H, 3BB
 
Explorers season record is now 14-5.  Next games are this weekend
in Kitchener and Oshweken vs. the Kitchener Hallman Twins and
Oshweken Redmen.
