Keating's Fitness Center, from Wilkes-Barre, Pa, won the 2nd
week-end championship of the Mid Atlantic Travel League with
a perfect 6-0 record. Keating's had a .329 batting average for
the week-end and a team 1.20 ERA.
 
In what proved to be the best game of the week-end, Keating's
had to come from behind twice, on Friday evening,  to defeat
the KMV Rise 5-4. Bill Hillhouse picked up the win for Keating's
giving up 2 earned runs while striking out 10 and walking 3.

With Mike Smith on the mound for the Rise, Keating's faced a
3-0 deficite and were only able to get 1 hit going into the bottom
of the 6th inning. In the 6th, Keating's blasted 5 hits and tied
the game at 3 apiece. 

The Rise wasted no time in taking back the lead when John Hurst
led off the top of the 7th with a homer to center. Keating's
fought right back in their half of the inning. Bret McHenry started
the rally by drawing a leadoff walk. He was sacrificed to 2nd
base then advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch. He immediately scored
the tying run on an infield error. After a walk to Greg Garrity
put runners on 1st and 2nd Mark Smith lined an RBI single to
win the game.

Mark Smith and Justin Stock had 2 singles each for Keating's.
Greg Garrity had an RBI double. Mike Keating and Steve Sell each
had a single. 

For the Rise, Steve Moore and Fred Torkleson were 2 for 3 each
with a double and single apiece. John Hurst had a solo home run
and scored 2 runs.
 
Keating's rode the strong pitching of Dave Stokes as they defeated
the Pa. Power 5-0. Stokes fired a 1 hit shutout to pick up the
victory for Keating's. He had 12 strike outs and no walks. 

Greg Garrity, Frank Keating Jr., and Justin Stock had 2 singles
apiece. Mark Smith was 1 for 2 with a double and 2 RBI's. Kevin
Smith had an RBI single. 

D. Giblin had a 4th inning single for the Power.
 
In a hard fought game, Keating's beat the Landis Markets team
3-1. Dave Stokes paced Keating's on the mound with his complete
game victory, his 2nd of the day. Stokes allowed no earned runs,
2 hits, had 6 strike outs, and 1 walk.

2nd baseman Toby Ranck had a big day at the plate for Keating's.
He was 3 for 3 with 2 solo home runs and a single. Bret McHenry
was 2 for 4 with 2 singles. Greg Garrity had a solo homer. Mike
Keating, Kevin Smith, and Justin Stock all singled.

For Landis, Mike Gehman and Russ Vincent had a single each. 
 
Next for Keating's was the playoff portion of the week-end. In
the quarter final game, Keating's defeated the Lancaster Merchants
8-1 thus knocking them out of the playoff portion of the Travel
League week-end. The fitnessmen wasted no time as they scored
5 quick runs in the bottom of the 1st inning.

Greg Garrity picked up the victory on the mound allowing 3 hits
while striking out 12 and walking 3 batters. Garrity also led
the offense going 2 for 2. He blasted a home run and single.

Toby Ranck went 2 for 3 with a triple, a single, 3 RBI's, and
scored a run. Dave Martin was also 2 for 3 with 2 singles. Justin
Stock was 1 for 2 with a triple and 3 runs scored. Mark Smith
went 1 for 2 with a double and 2 RBI's. Frank Keating Jr. and
Kevin Smith had a single and an RBI each. 

For Lancaster Junior Rhodes was 1 for 2 with a double and a run.
Jay Herr had an RBI single.
 
Keating's beat the Rise in the semi-final game 7-3. Keating's
busted the game open with a 4 run 2nd inning. Justin Stock led
the 11 hit attack going 3 for 4 with 3 singles, 2 RBI's, a stolen
base, and 2 runs. Frank Keating Jr. went 2 for 4, 2 singles.
Steve Sell had a 2 run home run in the 2nd inning. Dave Martin
doubled and scored 2 runs. Greg Garrity, Toby Ranck, Mark Smith,
and Dave Stokes all singled. 

Bill Hillhouse (6-0) was the starter and winner, pitching 5 innings
and striking out 4 and not allowing a walk. Greg Garrity (4-0)
picked up the save, pitching the last 2 innings. He allowed no
runs, 1 hit, struck out 3 and walked 1. 

Steve Moore led the Rise with a 2 for 3 effort. He had a double,
single, and an RBI. John Hurst had a 2 run homer, and Matt Daley
doubled.
 
In the Championship game Keating's defeated South Lebanon 9-1.
Keating's broke open a 1-1 game in the 6th inning with 3 runs
then added 5 more in the 7th for the victory.

Greg Garrity pitched a jem of a game allowing only 2 hits while
striking out 11 and walking 3 batters.

Kevin Smith led Keating's 10 hit attack with a 2 for 4 effort,
including a home run and single. Frank Keating Jr. was also 2
for 4 with a double, a single, 3 RBI's, and scored 2 runs. Mike
Keating was 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a run. Greg Garrity belted
a 2 run homer. Justin Stock doubled, had an RBI and scored 2
runs. Mark Smith and Dave Stokes each singled and drove in a
run apiece.

S. Lebanon's 2 hits were singles by Mike Rohrer and Swisher.
 
 
All 3 pitchers for Keating's, Dave Stokes, Greg Garrity, and
Bill Hillhouse had 2-0 records for the week-end. Stokes pitched
14 innings, didn't allow an earned run, gave up 3 hits, had 18
strike outs and walked 1 batter.Garrity pitched 15 innings, gave
up 6 hits, had 26 strike outs, 7 walks, 0.93 ERA, and recorded
1 save. Hillhouse pitched 12 innings, had 14 strike outs, 3 walks,
and a 2.92 ERA.
 
Offensively for the week-end Justin Stock was 10 for 18, (.556
Avg), a triple, double, 8 singles, 3 stolen bases, 9 runs, .636
OBP, .722 SLG.
Toby Ranck was 6 for 11, (.545), 2 home runs, triple, 3 singles,
..538 OBP, 1.273 SLG.
Greg Garrity: .444 Avg, 3 home runs, double, 4 singles, 7 RBI's,
..591 OBP, 1.000 SLG.
Mark Smith: .429 Avg, 2 doubles, 4 singles, 7 RBI's, .571 SLG;
Kevin Smith: ..385 Avg, .615 SLG; Frank Keating Jr: .368 Avg,
.500 OBP; Mike Keating: ..308 Avg.
 
Keating's over-all season record is 14-2. Their next tournament
action will be in Allentown, Pa. at Pates Park July 1 for the
4th of July Classic. 1st game for Keating's will be Saturday
morning at 11:30AM vs. Pa. Power.
