Team USA Rocks Heat17-1

 

TUCSON, Ariz.– In its first appearance of the season, the 2006
USA Women’sNational Team had an explosive outing delivering 17
hits as they topped the NPFArizona Heat, 17-1, tonight in Tucson
Ariz. The exhibition seriescontinues tomorrow with a double header
at 6 PT before wrapping up Sunday at 7PT

 

Team USA got on theboard in the second when Lovie Jung (Fountain
ValleyCalif.) ripped a ball to center field to scoreAndrea Duran
(Selma, Calif.) who reached on a triple, one of twotriples for
the team. 

 

The Heat tied up the game in the bottom of the third when AutumnChampion
reached scoring position at third after being hit by a pitch
by AliciaHollowell (Suisun, Calif.). A single by Crystl Farley
scoredChampion, of which would be the Heat’s only run of the
game.

 

Tucsonnative Tairia Flowers broke the tie in the fourth with
a two-RBI homerun overleft field, scoring Duran who reached on
a fielders choice. Hollowell threwfour innings giving up two
hits and one run with five strikeouts before CatOsterman (Houston,
Texas) entered in the bottom of the fifth.It was three up three
down with two strikeouts for Osterman who stayed in untilJennie
Finch (La Mirada, Calif.) came in during the sixth to closethe
game.

 

The run production of the sixth inning was more than the combined
runsof the previous innings. Flowers, who came up to bat twice
in the sixth,delivered a solo homerun shot over right field to
start off the seven hit-sevenrun inning. In her next at bat of
the inning, she hit a standup double closingout the night at
3-4 with four RBI.

 

“I always like coming home and playing here in Tucson. The fans
here have a great love forthe sport of softball and for great
competition,” said Flowers of herhomecoming. “And of course its
always great to play in front of my friendsand family.”

 

Flowers along with Jessica Mendoza (CamarilloCalif.) with a single,
triple and double andStacey Nuveman (LaVerne, Calif.) with a
homerun and singlecontributed 12 of the team’s 17 RBI.
