Aussies continue winning streak

 

In a thrilling match, the Australian Open Women’ssoftball team
was able to overcome a late charge by Canada Elite on day threeof
the 2006 Canada Cup in Vancouver, winning 5-4in the last inning
of play.  

 

Australia took anearly lead in the bottom of the first with Simmone
Morrow, Natalie Titcume and Tracey Mosleyscoring. 

 

Canada Elite were quick to reply in the top of the secondand
then took a 4-3 lead in the fifth. 

 

Kelly Hardie pitchedwell with Catherine Bishop relieving her
in the fifth and then three-timeOlympian and co-captain, Tanya
Harding on themound in the sixth and seventh innings managed
to hold the Canada Elite bats. 

 

Scores were level going into the bottom of the seventh with Australia’s
Danielle Stewart stepping up to the plate. With twoout and a
runner on second, Stewart hit a triple to score Mosley and win
thegame. 

 

Australia plays Japan –Denso Club at 1.30pm (AEST) onWednesday
5 July in Day 4 of play.
