USASoftball National Teams Meet in California

 

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The 2006 USA Softball Women’sNational
Team and the 2006 USA Softball World University Team will meet
for anexhibition game on Mon. July 10in Irvine, Calif., before
both head to their biggestcompetition of the season. The USA
Softball National Team will use this game asa final warm-up prior
to departing for Oklahoma CityOkla., and the II World Cup of
Softball, July13-17, while the World University Team sets its
sights on Tainan City, Taiwanfor the II World University Softball
Championships, July 15-23.

 

The USA National Team is coming off a 4-0 sweep of the Arizona
Heatfrom the National Pro Fastpitch League in Tucson Ariz., where
they outscored theHeat, 43-5. Jessica Mendoza (Camarillo Calif.)
led the team offensivelyputting up a team-high 10 RBI. She hit
a grand slam homerun, a triple, doubleand three singles for a
.353 average. Vicky Galindo (Union City, Calif.posted a team-high
average of .833 (5-6) and scored three runs. In the circle,Cat
Osterman (Houston, Texas) pitched a team-high 11 innings with19
strikeouts including a no-hitter in game four. 

 

The World University Team will be making its debut in the Red,
Whiteand Blue when it takes the field against the National Team.
This team iscomposed of those with college eligibility or those
who just completed theircollegiate eligibility. The team is comprised
of nine players who competed atthe 2006 NCAA Women’s College
World Series including catcher Callista Balko(Salinas, Calif.and
shortstop Kristie Fox (San Diego Calif.) from the 2006 NationalChampion
Arizona Wildcats. 

 

The game is schedule for 7:30 (PT) at Deanna Manning Stadium,
Col. BillBarber Park in Irvine, Calif. Live stats will be available
