Three Canadians named to Canada Cup All-Star Team
(Surrey, BC) - Three Canadians receive top honors and have been
named to the 2006 Canada Cup All-Star Team.
Team Canada's own, Sheena Lawrick (Calgary, AB) who was selected
as All-Star first baseman, has been almost perfect defensively
for Canada committing only 1 error in 8 games. Complementing
her defensive skills, at the plate, Lawrick is leading Team Canada
with 8 runs batted in.
"I'm truly honored to have received this award" stated Lawrick.
"It is definitely a team effort. We play hard during every
game to try and reach our goals. I feel as though the entire
team has had a great performance throughout the tournament.
We are coming together as a team and together we are focusing
our attention on reaching the podium in Beijing.
Joining Lawrick as part of the 2006 Canada Cup All-Star Team
are Canada Elite's Erin Gee (Burnaby, BC) and Jennifer Yee (North
Delta, BC). Gee, who has been named All-Star outfielder and
Yee, who has been named All-Star designated player have both
been instrumental in Canada Elite's success during the tournament.
"It is an honor and a surprise" stated Gee. "As a team, we have
worked so hard on process, individual success just happens."
"We have been hitting and playing so well as a team it all just
seems to mesh together" added Yee. "It is just really special
to win this award at home."
"This is a tribute to how well our Team has played" stated Toni
Foti, Head Coach of Canada Elite. "Both players have been instrumental
in our team's success. Gee has been a catalyst for our offence.
She has been a very tough player to get out. She has set the
table for us. As for Yee, she has been a great middle of the
line-up hitter. She has been very reliable for us. She can
play the short game just as easily as she can hit the ball deep.
This is a great honor for the two of them. This speaks well
of the program with regards to what we've been able to accomplish
in just 4 weeks."
Both Canada and Canada Elite will look to keep their playoff
drives alive on Saturday July 8th as Canada faces off against
the Florida Quicksilver and Canada Elite faces China.
