Keating's Fitness Center, from Wilkes-Barre, Pa., traveled down
the turnpike to Allentown for the 4th of July Classic. Keating's
recorded a 2-1 record in the round robin portion of the 8 team
tournament then beat the KMV Rise 7-4 in the semi-final game
before losing in the championship game 5-2 to South Lebanon.

 
Keating's opened the tournament by beating the Pa. Power 3-2
behind the strong pitching of Dave Stokes. With Keating's ahead
3-0 in the 7th, the Pa. Power scored 2 unearned runs with 2 outs
before Stokes retired the last batter with runners on 1st and
3rd. Stokes struck out 7 and walked none in his complete game
victory. 

Toby Ranck led the offense for Keating's with a 2 for 3 effort,
including a double and single. Justin Stock was also 2 for 3
with 2 singles, a stolen base and a run. Greg Garrity, Dave Martin,
Steve Ray, Steve Sell, and Mark Smith all singled. 

For Pa. Power Greg Holtz and Bob Wicker had a double and single
each. Chris Fagan doubled and Dave Giblin had a single.
 
In a real old time pitchers duel, Jermey Tracy and his South
Lebanon team edged out Greg Garrity and Keating's Fitness Center
1-0. The only run of the game was scored in the 3rd inning on
a RBI single by Mike Rohrer. 
 
Tracy pitched a 2 hitter while striking out 15 and walking 1.
Rohrer was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and Justin Cevette was 1 for
2 with a single and a stolen base.

Garrity had 7 strike outs while walking 1 batter. Kevin Smith
and Justin Stock had a single each. 

Dave Stokes scattered 3 hits as Keating's Fitness Center beat
the Pates Petro Kings 9-1. Stokes didn't allow an earned run,
while striking out 8 and walking 2. 

On offense Toby Ranck led the 12 hit attack by going 3 for 3
with 3 singles and an RBI and a run scored. Justin Stock was
2 for 3 including a double, single and a run scored. Greg Garrity
went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and an RBI. Kevin Smith smashed a
3 run 5th inning home run. Dave Martin was 1 for 2 with a double,
an RBI, and scored a run. Frank Keating Jr., Mike Keating, and
Steve Sell all singled. 

For the Patriots Chris Cope and Dave Fries had a single each.
 
In the semi-final game Keating's defeated the Rise 7-4. Bret
McHenry led the 10 hit attack with a 3 for 4 effort. He had a
double, 2 singles, had 3 RBI's and scored 3 runs. Frank Keating
Jr. was 2 for 3 including 2 singles and 4 RBI's. Greg Garrity
had a double and Dave Martin, Steve Sell, Mark Smith and Dave
Stokes all singled.

Garrity picked up the complete game win on the mound. He allowed
2 earned runs, struck out 6 and walked one. 

For the Rise, John Hurst was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles. Steve Moore
and John Stinner were both 2 for 3 with 2 singles. 
 
Keating's committed 4 errors in the championship game allowing
4 unearned runs enroute to a 5-2 defeat at the hands of South
Lebanon. Jeremy Tracy scattered 5 hits for Lebanon and had 4
strike outs and 1 walk to pick up the mound victory. Justin Cevette
belted a 2nd inning solo homer and Paul Batt was 1 for 2 with
a single and a stolen base.

For Keating's Kevin Smith blasted a 2 run 2nd inning hom run.
Mike Keating and Mark Smith both had a double. Steve Sell and
Justin Stock had a single each. 
 
 
Dave Stokes had a 2-0 record for the week-end. He pitched 13.1
innings, allowed no earned runs, had 17 strike outs and walked
2 batters. Greg Garrity had a 1-2 record. He threw 17.2 innings,
struck out 21, walked 5 and had a 1.63 ERA. 
 
Keating's had a team batting average of .322 for the tournament.
Outfielder Justin Stock paced the offense with a .462 average,
1 double, 5 singles, 2 stolen bases, 3 runs, .538 SLG. 
 
Toby Ranck had a .455 average, 1 double, 4 singles, .545 OBP,
..545 SLG.
 
Bret McHenry batted .429, had a double, 2 singles, 3 runs, .571
SLG.
 
Steve Sell had a .333 average; Greg Garrity batted .333, had
a double and 3 singles ; Dave Stokes had a .333 average and a
.500 OBP.
 
Keating's over-all season record is 17-4. Their next action will
be next weekend at Lyons in the Travel League. They have a doubleheader
on Friday starting at 7:30PM vs. South Lebanon.
