Undefeated Aussies win back-to-back titles

 

The Aussie Spirit has defeated Canada 6-4 to winthe 2006 Canada
Cup back-to-back.

 

The Canada bats got some early hits away with a home run inthe
top of the third and then scoring in the fourth to take a 2-0
lead.  

 

Australia replied inthe bottom of the fourth with co-captain
Natalie Ward scoring to bring Canada’slead back to one run.

 

Australia’s batswere on fire in the bottom of the fifth, scoring
five runs from five hits. 

 

Stacey Porter scored atwo-run home run, bringing home Simmone
Morrow. Later inthe innings, Natalie Titcume moved to second
when Tracey Mosley singled, with Danielle Stewart replacing Mosley
on base. Marissa Carpadios stepped up to the plate with tworunners
on base and hit a three-run home run, bringing home Titcume and
Stewartto take Australia to a 6-2lead. 

 

The Canada bats hitanother two runs in the top of the seventh,
one a home run, but were unable toconvert the four hits to runs
to force Australia to bat again.

 

The Aussie Spirit remainedundefeated throughout the championship,
winning eleven games from eleven

Last year, at the 2005 Canada Cup, the Aussies defeated USA Elite
in the final 3-0with a 10 win two loss record. 

 

The team is now heading to Oklahoma to competein the US World
Cup which takes place from 13-17 July. Australia will be upagainst
the USA, Japan, China, Canada and Great Britain.
