Selects & Lumber Kings Split

The Owen Sound Midget Selects and Clifford Lumber Kings split
their 
Bluewater Fastball League doubleheader at Duncan McLellan Park
in Owen Sound 
Sunday afternoon.

The Selects came back to win the opener 5-4, but Clifford evened
the day 
with a 7-2 win in game 2.

In the opener, The Selects scored three times in the bottom of
the 6th to 
erase a 4-2 Clifford lead and score the victory.

In the 6th, Selects thirdbaseman Matt Murphy walked and advanced
to third on 
wild pitches.

After Brandon Best walked, Designated Player Ryan Carefoot knocked
in Murphy 
with an rbi single to close the gap to 4-3.

Both Best and Carefoot would come around to score when the Lumber
Kings 
committed their only errors of the ball game.

David Juniper went 7 innings to record the victory, giving up
10 hits and 
striking out 4 batters.

Greg Officer took the loss. He stranded 10 Selects on base, but
was 
victimized by the late rally.

In game 2, Clifford shortstop Kent DeBruyn launched the proceedings
with a 
triple and scored when leftfielder Matt Uhrig knocked him with
a single.

Uhrig had a great day at the plate for Clifford going 4 for 4
with 2 runs 
scored and 2 r.b.i. in the game.

The Crunch trailed 4-2 after 3, but Brady Lantz, with an exceptional
series 
of pitches, kept the Owen Sound squad off balance the rest of
the way.

Nolan Kreis took the loss for the Selects giving up 12 hits.

The annual Family Night at Duncan McLellan Park is Tuesday night
when the 
Owen Sound Crunch host the Port Elgin Blue Devils.
