Semi-finalists determined for Men's Major Fast Pitch National
Championship

SOUTH BEND, IN -- Four teams advanced to Saturday's semi-finals
of the 74th annual ASA Men's Major Fast Pitch National Championship
after 17 games were played Friday at the Belleville Softball
Complex.

Saturday's semi-finals are scheduled at 11 a.m. and will match
two teams that know each other well because they are both from
Wisconsin, Circle Tap of Green Bay (3-0) and The Farm Tavern
(2-0) of Madison. In the other semi-final, the Bloomington (IL)
Stix (2-0) will oppose Heflin Builders (2-0) of Balston Lake,
NY.

Bloomington, (IL) Stix 1, Plangger's Furniture 0 (15 innings)
Bloomington, (IL) Stix 4, Florida Fast Pitch 1

After winning its first game 1-0 against Plangger's Furniture
in 15 innings, the Bloomington Stix surprised last year's runner-up
Florida Fast Pitch
of Jacksonville, FL for its second consecutive win.

The Stix scored all of its runs in the first inning in handing
Florida Fast Pitch its first loss in two games.The Stix had four
of their six hits in the first inning with Sonny Perkins having
a two-run single, winning pitcher Thomas Cameron an RBI single
and Blake Martin an RBI double.
Cameron allowed four hits and fanned 10 and didn't allow a run
until the sixth inning when it scored on a ground out by Lauro
Flex.Losing pitcher Sebastian Gervasutti allowed six hits and
struck out seven and allowed only two hits after the first inning.
..Brad Johnson had a pair of singles in four at-bats for the
losers. No player from Bloomington had more than one hit. 

In the extra inning game, Paul Algar of Plangger's suffered the
loss despite fanning 26 batters and allowing nine hits. Winning
pitcher Dewey Dyck fanned 17 batters and allowed six hits in
getting the win and also having the game-winning RBI in the 15th
inning. Dyck also had a double with Lance Freeman and Thomas
Cameron each having two hits apiece for the winners.

Circle Tap 8, Patsy's 3
Circle Tap 3, MVD Sports of Ashland, OH 1

Trailing 2-1, Circle Tap of Green Bay, WI scored six runs in
the third inning to defeat Patsy's of New York City, 8-3, for
its second consecutive win in the Men's Major Fast Pitch National
Championship. It was the opening game for Patsy's.
Chris Delarwelle put Circle Tap out in front with a two-out solo
homer over the left field fence first inning before Patsy's came
back to score twice in the bottom half of the inning on a Circle
Tap throwing error by the catcher and a solo homer by catcher
Louie Joglar. That would be the last time Patsy's would lead
as Circle Tap tallied six times in the third and once in the
sixth.
Kyle Magnusson, Tom Crouch and Todd Malnory had RBI singles to
account for three of the runs with the other runs scoring on
an outfield error, a wild pitch and a passed ball. Adam LaLonde's
single in the fifth inning accounted for the third and final
Patsy's run.
Adam Folkard was the loser and went two and one-third innings
before Gerald Muizelaar replaced him in the third inning and
pitched the remainder of the game. Matt Bramwell was the winner
and went the distance.

Patsy's wasted no time in seizing command of the game against
the Ashland, OH Merchants, scoring six runs in the first two
innings on seven hits. The runs came on a two-run homer by Frank
DeGroat, a two-run triple by Chris Miljavac and a sac fly by
Adam LaLonde. LaLonde added an RBI single in the third inning
to expand the lead to 7-0. LaLonda got his third RBI with a single
in the fifth inning expanding the lead to 8-0. Orlando Rodriguez
made it 10-0 with a two-run double to left field and Louie Joglar
singled in the 11th run in a four-run fifth.
Winner Gerald Muzielaar hurled the first three innings before
right-hander Terry Luster entered in the fourth inning and pitched
the remainder of the game. Muzielaar allowed only a pair of singles,
fanned four batters and walked one. Luster fanned five and allowed
one hit.
LaLonde led the winners with two singles, a double and three
RBI. DeGroat also had three hits for Patsy's (2-1).
Friday evening Patsy's improved its record to 3-1 by beating
the Thomson Area, IL Merchants in a six-inning run rule contest.
Winning pitcher Adam Folkard fanned 11 in four innings with Terry
Luster finishing up, striking out four in two innings. Brad Cheyne
was the loser, allowing 13 hits and 10 runs (seven earned runs).
He fanned four and walked one. Jeff Hook drove in four runs for
Patsy's which has rebounded after an opening game loss to win
three games in a row

Townline 6, Plangger's Furniture, Benton Harbor, MI 2

In the last game Saturday evening, Townline collected 10 hits
in defeating Plangger's with Tane Richardson fanning eight and
walking two in getting the
win. Rick Plangger started for the losers with Paul Algar pitching
the last five innings. Terry Botesma had a two-run homer in the
second inning to account for the only Plangger's run. Josh Johnson
and Chris Delorte had two singles apiece for the winners. Richardson
also had two RBI.
Townline scored four in the first and once each in the second
and third innings.

Thomson Area, IL Merchants 1, Ashland (OH) Merchants 0
Thomson Area, IL Merchants 10, Duncan Outlaws , Elkhart, IN 5
One run was all the Thomson, IL Area Merchants needed to even
their record in the Men's Major Fast Pitch National Championship
Saturday at 1-1.It was the second loss in as many games for the
Merchants who lost their opener to Circle Tap 3-1.
The lone run came in the first inning when Kraig Sommers doubled
and scored one out later on a single by Casey Eden. Ashland never
got a runner past second base against winning pitcher Jonas Mach.
Losing pitcher was Scott Hershey who fanned five batters.


Plangger's Furniture, Benton Harbor, MI 6, Thomson Area, IL Merchants

After allowing five runs in the first inning, Doug Sleep closed
the door on the Thomson Area, IL Merchants as Plangger's Furniture
of Benton Harbor, MI evened its record at 1-1 in the Men's Major
Fast Pitch National Championship Friday.
Sleep allowed eight hits and only three after the first inning
when the losers tallied five times on an RBI single by Scott
Glazier, and a pair of two-run homers by Bruce Bielema and Marquis
Cody. Cody's homer was the first inside-the-park homer of the
tournament.
Plangger's fought back and scored once in the bottom of the first
on an RBI single by Doc Brown and added two runs in the second
and three in the third inning against losing pitcher Brad Cheyne,
who allowed 10 hits.
Shortstop Brent Mallernee had a two-run double in the second
inning, Gary Cooper had a two-run double and Steve Hamming an
RBI single in the third inning for Plangger's.

Townline 3, D.C. Current 1
Minn Dak Millers 14, D.C. Current 2
Breaking a tie, Townline of Denmark, WI scored twice in the sixth
inning to get its first victory in three games in handing D.C.
Current of Bremen, IN its third defeat of the tournament.
Betto Guerrinieri started for the winners and went the first
five innings before Tane Richardson came on to hurl the last
two innings to get the win, allowing only one hit and striking
out three. Dean Woldy was the loser, allowing nine hits and three
runs. He fanned two and walked an identical number.
Keith Buecke had a pair of singles for D.C. Josh Johnson led
the winners with three singles, John Zipperer had a double and
a single and Jim Corbet added a single and a homer for the winners.
Earlier, D.C. Current lost to the Minn Dak Millers of Fargo,
ND and pulled off a rare triple play. 

In other games Saturday, Keating Fitness Center of Wilkes Barre,
PA shutout the Duncan Outlaws of Elkhart 15- 0, the Farm Tavern
blanked Dolan and Murphy of Aurora, IL 5-0, and the Heflin Builders
disposed of the Midland Explorers 7-5
