Canada storms past Thunder in game 2 by a score of 5-2

(LEAGUE CITY, Texas) - After arriving at Big League Dream Stadium
in a thunderstorm it was all Canada as Sheena Lawrick (Calgary,
AB) drove in three runs and hit her second home run of the series
on Thursday night as Team Canada defeated the Texas Thunder 5-2
at Big League Dreams in League City to take the first two games
of the series.

Lawrick's started the scoring for Canada in the third inning
with her team trailing 2-0 sending a Serena Settlemier pitch
to deep right field to tie the game. The two run homerun was
her second homerun of the series against the Thunder. Lawrick
continued her attack driving in the decisive third run in the
top of the fifth with a line drive single to right field.

Canada would tack on two more runs in the top of the seventh
inning pushing them to a 5-2 win.

In the series, Lawrick is 4-for-7 with seven RBIs and two home
runs. She has also scored two runs for Team Canada in the first
two games of the series.

The Thunder's (17-25) offense was held again to just two hits,
both hits coming in consecutive at-bats. Both runners would be
stranded on base as Settlemier flew out to the fence in left
field. The Thunder pressured again in the bottom of the seventh
inning as Clare Burnum was hit by a pitch to start things off
followed by a walk to Danyele Gomez. Danielle Lawrie (Langley,
BC) ended the Thunder threat striking out Karrie Rider, Rocky
Spencer and Nina Lindenberg stranding the runners on base and
ending the game.

Robin Mackin (Newmarket, ON) started in the circle for Canada
and she was wildly effective in six-plus innings of work. She
surrendered only two hits in the game, however, walked seven,
giving the Thunder plenty of opportunities to score. Both of
the Texas runs were unearned. Kristen Zaleski scored both runs
in the contest after mistakes by the Canadian defense kept the
inning going. Lawrie relieved Mackin in the seventh to record
the save.

Settlemier took the loss in the circle to fall to 3-7 on the
season. She went the distance for Texas allowing all five runs
(four earned) and nine hits. She also struck out five in the
game.

"We faced a lot of adversity today" stated Lori Sippel, Head
Coach of the Senior Women's National Team. "Texas played a great
game and after being delayed by the thunderstorm and trailing
by 2 runs we needed to stay focused on our goals. Solid pitching
from Mackin and Lawrie and key hits from our offence kept us
focused and gave us the edge in the game. This was a very positive
win for us."

Canada will look to take a 3-0 series lead against the Thunder
on Friday night at Big League Dreams stadium. The game will
be broadcast live by way of radio through the Thunder's website
at www.thunderprofastpitch.com.
