Aussies off to good start at World Championship
The Australian Open Womens softball team has wontheir opening
game at the XI International Softball Federations WomensWorld
Championship defeating Greece 5-1.
Simmone Morrow scored at the bottom of the first to take Australia
to an earlylead.
Greece replied inthe top of second, but great batting and base
work from the Australian bats helpedtake a 3-1 lead with runs
scored from Natalie Ward and Amanda Doman.
AustraliasTanya Harding opened the pitching with Kelly Hardie
replacing her at the top ofthe fourth. Hardie held Greecesbats
allowing them only two hits.
Kate Quigley and Ward scored at the bottom of the sixth tosecure
Australiasfirst victory.
Australia plays Colombia at 12.30pm today.
