White Sox hit out to end tournament
Saturday September 2nd 2006

The New Zealand Community Trust White Sox gave a glimpse of what
they arecapable of today as the found some hitting form in their
final game atthe 2006 Women’s Softball World Championships.

In their final round robin game in Beijing, China today the White
Soxhave defeated DPR Korea 4-0 with a strong hitting display.

Throughout round robin play New Zealand has struggled to score
runs andon the back of an upset loss to Great Britain yesterday
they have missedout on a place in the championship playoffs.

On the diamond today with both teams playing for pride New Zealand
weretoo strong as they picked up nine hits in the game. The White
Sox wereled well by their captain Fiona Timu with three RBI’s.


The White Sox opened the scoring in the first inning when with
the basesloaded Timu was hit by the pitch allowing Sheree Cartwright
to score. TheWhite Sox went further ahead in the third inning
when once again Timu wasto the forefront as she picked up a double
and scored two runners frombase. The White Sox scored their final
run in the fourth inning whenTianna Areaiiti came home on a double
by Kalala Faalogo. 

Defensively the White Sox were strong as DPR Korea never reallythreatened
to score. On the mound for New Zealand Ali Arnold pitched thefull
game picking up five strikeouts while giving up three hits and
fourwalks. 
 
The White Sox finish the tournament with a three win four loss
record.The team will remain in China until the end of the tournament
and willarrive home on Thursday September 7th.
