Aussies guaranteed medal at World Championships

 

The Australian OpenWomen’s team, Aussie Spirit, are guaranteed
of a medal at the ISFWomen’s World Championship after defeating
host nation China 1-0 in Beijing last night.

 

The win ensures theAustralian team will finish on the podium
at the championship; the only thing tobe decided now is the colour
of the medal. The Aussie Spirit will play the USA at 5.00pm (AEST)
today, with the winner of that match to play Japan in the gold
medal match at 7.00pm (AEST) tonight. The loser of the Australia
– USA match will come away with the bronze medal.

 

The Aussie Spirit guaranteed themselves a medal with a hard fought
win over China. The only run for the match came in the bottom
of thefourth innings when Stacey Porter hit a massive home run
over the left fieldfence. Australian pitchers Tanya Harding (4
innings) and Melanie Roche (3innings) held the Chinese batters
to just four hits for the match.

 

Last night’s victoryensures that all four of Australia’s national
teams will retain their ranking inthe top three in the world.
