So Cal Bombers add Rob Shick to Coaching Staff
Wednesday, October 11, 2006

The So Cal Bombers are proud to announce the signing of Rob Shick
to the club’s coaching staff. Rob is a longtime professional
referee with the National Hockey League and lives in Temecula,
California.

In the mid 80’s Shick was an All-Canadian centerfielder with
the Port Alberni A’s and an All-Canadian leftfielder Alberta
Brake & Clutch when they were Canadian Champions, before turning
full time to his career in the NHL. He originally hails out of
Port Alberni, BC and was an early teammate of Doug Chase, and
is well known in the BC sport world.

His schedule allows for his availability starting in May (dependent
upon Stanley Cup assignment) and throughout the summer and his
family including girlfriend Linda, her children Rachel and Austin,
and Rob’s two sons Brodie and Landen are very supportive of his
commitment for the summer.

Head Coach Kelly McGiffin (who’s also originally from Port Alberni)
said he’s thrilled to be able to add both a long time friend
and an accomplished professional to the staff.

“Rob not only brings over 25 years of experience in professional
sports to the table but was an accomplished and highly respected
ball player in Canada in his younger years. He knows the game
and he knows how the game should be played. He is rich in his
understanding of the mental part of the game and having met with
him a few times recently, he has shown great passion for getting
back in the game. Having Rob join our organization takes So Cal
another important step forward in our goal to be a professionally
run and well prepared club.”

Team ownership and players welcome Rob and look forward to his
contribution and leadership with the Bombers. Shick’s specific
duties within the coaching staff will be determined in the spring
when he and McGiffin have some time to sit down and go over the
team and the season’s plans.
