Subject:  National Women's Softball Teams Touch Base in Brisbane

The Softball Australia Women’s National League 2006/07goes into
full swing this Friday 17 November at Brisbane’s Downey Park
with teamsfrom the four Institutes and Academies of Sports, the
AIS and an Under 19National Squad battling it out in Round 1
of this four part tournament. 

 

The first round runs from Friday to Sunday, and with astrong
contingency of Olympic medallists stepping onto the diamond,
the threedays promises to be a sensational showdown of skill
and speed. The Grand Finalwill be played at 1:00pm Sunday. 

 

The teams competing in Round 1 are the NSWIS Firestars, QASHeatwave,
VIS Titans, WAIS Coastals, Diamonds and Starz. 

 

The NSWIS Firestars took out last year’s competition,formerly
known as the Softball Australia Grand Prix Series, winning two
of thethree rounds of the 2005/06 series, defeating WAIS 13-9
(Round 1) and QASHeatwave 2-1 (Round 3). 

 

Teams will vie for the highly coveted McLaughlin Cup, namedafter
one of the legends of the game, Audrey McLaughlin OAM. 

 

All the action starts at 8:30am Friday with the QAS Heatwavetaking
on the VIS Titans with games continuing throughout the day. Admission
isfree to all games.
