KANATA MINOR SOFTBALL GETS SCHOOLS TO TRY SOFTBALL!

NORTH YORK, ONTARIO – What’s missing in many elementary schools’
physical education curriculum? It’s the opportunity for students
to TRY SOFTBALL! In the Ottawa area, the Kanata Minor Softball
Association has been working hard to bring softball back into
their local elementary schools, and its working.

Since beginning the program, Kanata Minor Softball volunteer
Rebecca Aiken has personally brought Softball Ontario’s TRY SOFTBALL
Kits to four (4) Kanata-area schools and is preparing to bring
the kit to a fifth school in April. Rebecca reports that the
schools have been thrilled with the TRY SOFTBALL kits; several
have started looking into purchasing a TRY SOFTBALL Kit for their
school.

Children across the province have been enjoying the TRY SOFTBALL
Program this school year, with more than 125 schools participating.
After one month using the TRY SOFTBALL Kit, Julia Spadetto from
Princess Anne French Immersion School in London, ON said “Thank-you
so much! The children absolutely loved it and are eager to learn
softball in the spring.”

TRY SOFTBALL Kits include everything you need to introduce children
between the ages of five (5) and twelve (12) to the sport of
softball. The Kits use BlastBall, a game similar to T-Ball but
much more exciting and physically active for students, to introduce
the children to softball. Each TRY SOFTBALL Kit includes a BlastBall
manual containing the rules of BlastBall as well as many modifications
to the game; the manual is given to the school to keep and use
in their future classes. Also included in the Kit is the Learn
to Play Level I Manual. Learn to Play is a revolutionary way
of introducing the sport of softball to children, and fosters
the development of players at all skill levels.

To address any safety concerns, all of the equipment is manufactured
using child-safe materials; the bat and ball are made of a soft
foam material, removing safety concerns that are created by aluminum
bats and hard balls. There are no equipment requirements for
the students, as baseball gloves are not required to participate
in the game.

With softball’s registration season in full swing, ensuring that
elementary school children have the opportunity to try the sport
of softball is very important. The registration deadline for
the Kanata Minor Softball Association is March 31, 2007. Registration
for the 2007 KMSA season is available through both mail-in and
online registration. Visit www.kmsa.ca for more information.

Schools interested in participating in the TRY SOFTBALL in the
Kanata area should contact Rebecca Aiken (raiken at rogers.com);
