Team From Around the World Prepare

for Competition in 2007 Canada Cup

(June 30 - July 8, 2007)

 

 

(Surrey, BC, Canada)  Teams from all over the world are getting
set to show some simply great softball as they prepare to compete
for a Canada Cup.  The excitement of top-level world competition
in the Women's event gets underway Saturday, June 30, 2007 at
Softball City (2201 - 148th St.).

 

It’s a grand slam tournament lineup once again with four tournaments
taking part in the Canada Cup competitive schedule.  Up to 85
teams from many parts of the world will be coming to B.C. to
take part in this softball extravaganza.

 

This year’s tournament includes the 14th Canada Cup International
Women’s Fastpitch Tournament featuring many international teams
preparing for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China,
the 6th Canada Cup International Fastpitch Futures Tournament
World Junior Women’s presented by MVP Athletic Supplies, the
3rd Canada Cup 16 and Under Fastpitch Showcase Tournament and
returning for the 10th time, the Canada Cup Special Olympics
Friendship Division Tournament.

 

This year’s Canada Cup International Women’s Fastpitch Tournament
running June 30 – July 8 at Softball Cityin Surrey will feature
up to 14 teams vying for supremacy including teams from Australia,
Canada, Chinese Taipei, Dominican Republic, Japan, Puerto Rico,
USA and Venezuela.  Included amongst these teams will be five
of the eight teams who have currently qualified for the 2008
Summer Olympic Games – USA, Japan, Australia, Canada and Chinese
Taipei.

 

Up to 38 teams are expected to compete in the Futures Tournament,
with play slated July 2 - 8 at Softball City, Cloverdale Athletic
Park (64th Ave and 168th St.) and Sullivan Park (152nd and 62nd),
all in Surrey. 

 

The 2007 Canada Cup 16 & Under Fastpitch Showcase Tournament
is scheduled July 2 – 8 at Softball City, Cloverdale Athletic
Park and Sullivan Park. Up to 25 teams will be expected to compete
in this event.

 

The Canada Cup Special Olympics Friendship Division Tournament
takes place July 5 – 8 with eight teams currently scheduled.


 

The Canada Cup was started by chair Glen Todd in 1993 as an international
women’s fastpitch developmental tournament to help the Canadian
National team prepare for top-level international competition.
Teams now regard the Canada Cup as one of the premier competitive
tournaments in the world.
