On June 7, 1944, Roy Stout was in the Navy, in the 7th Beach
Battalion,
riding along with his mates, in a Higgins boat, heading for a
landing on
Omaha Beach in France. His group was divided, so some landed
on June 6
(D-Day) and the rest on June 7. Roy was in the June 7 group.....his
twentieth birthday! After landing, he spent the next seventy-eight
days on
the beach in the capacity of signalman, signaling other ships
where and when
to land.
The resistance from the enemy had been enormous, leaving many
USA boys dead.
In addition to signalman duties, Roy had other duties, one of
which was
helping to retrieve the bodies floating in the surf. He helped
get these
bodies to dry ground, away from the surf, where a temporary burial
place had
been established.
HAPPY TWENTIETH BIRTHDAY, ROY !!!!!!!!
On June 7, 2007, Roy has just retired from officiating in sports
for fifty
years and thirty years officiating in Fastpitch Softball from
the High
School Girls' program. However, he plans to continue young men's
and young
women's softball officiating at the Palmdale Parks and Recreation
Department, and elsewhere. Also, he'll continue with several
special larger
tournaments throughout the year, namely, Norwalk, CA; Red Rock
in St.
George, Utah; Palm Springs, CA; Santa Fe, CA; World Tournament,
Kitchener,
Canada (10 days); etc.
Roy is also busy at the Lancaster Presbyterian Church where he
is presently
finishing a three-year term as Elder. Life is interesting! Praise
the
Lord! Celebration time!!
HAPPY EIGHTY-THIRD BIRTHDAY,
ROY!!!!!!!!
