Woods, Rivett propel Sask. to win over East Hants
SUMMERSIDE - Brady Woods was solid going the distance as he led
the Saskatchewan Junior Diamondbacks to a 2-1 win over the Nova
Scotia rep East Hants Henchmen at the 2007 Causeway Bay national
Junior Men’s fast pitch championship.
Woods, who pitches in the U.S. with Fargo, N.D. Kegel Black Knights,
gave his defensive mates the praise for the win.
"I can’t take credit for this win, the guys battled hard they
earned it," Woods said. "After the tough loss to P.E.I. earlier,
the guys really responded well.
Woods said fans at the game got a glimpse of what makes him listed
as a future pitching star in the ISC.
"I came pretty close to my best stuff there tonight," he said,
adding in the U.S. he can pitch with one foot on the rubber which
makes for more speed on the pitches.
He said if the team won their last seven, or lost their next
seven, it’s all about getting in a groove.
"We just want to keep going and bring about our top game," he
added. "We’ll expect to pick it up as the week goes by and take
what is given to us."
Kyle Rivett was 1-for-3 at the dish with an RBI to lead the Diamondbacks.
East Hants coach Ryan Isenor was disappointed his team didn’t
manage to get enough opportunities to score.
"We just needed to get the bat on the ball more," Isenor said."Defensively
and pitching, I really thought we did good job at."
"We just never gave ourselves an opportunity with baserunners.
He said for the Henchmen to have success in their next eight
games, they will have to get things on track.
"Our main objective is to win when we can and be there playing
come Saturday," Isenor said.
No more stats were immediately available for this game.
