Squirt “A” Provincial Championship

</fontfamily></bold><fontfamily><param>Times</param>Opening ceremonies
were well planned. All the teams and local dignitaries were piped
onto the field. Each player was presented with a “goodie bag”
prepared by the host club. Very much appreciated by everyone.



Teams participating in the tournament were Micksburg Twins, Elmira
Lazers, Kitchener Kolts, Kingston Kobras, Napanee Express, Cobourg
Clippers, Stouffville Storm and Enterprise Stingers. Elmira Lazers
are the Squirt “A” champions. Elmira started the tournament by
defeating Micksburg Twins 5-4. Their next win was over Kitchener
Kolts 3-0. They met Stouffville Storm, the other undefeated team.

Stouffville defeated the Enterprise Stingers 14-2 and the Napanee
Express 10-2. The game between Elmira Lazers and Stouffville
Storm
was a very close game. Elmira Lazers were ahead 2-1 going into
the
top of the 5. Elmira scored 4 runs in the top of the 6th to go
ahead
6-1. Stouffville Storm fought back in the bottom of the 7th to
score
3 runs just falling short of the win. Stouffville Storm then
dropped
down to meet Kitchener Kolts defeating them 13-10. Stouffville
brought there impressive win streak into the Province Championship
game against Elmira. Stouffville was winning this game when the
rain
started. After the rain delay Stouffville went on to win this
game
11-9. Stouffville was ahead going into the bottom of the 7th
11-3. 
Elmira scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 7th leaving the bases
loaded. This forced a second championship game. Elmira came out
on
top of the second game with a 7-4 win over Stouffville. This
was a
close game until the 6th inning. Elmira was ahead 4-2 and scored
3
runs in the 6th. Stouffville came back in the bottom of the 7th
with
2 more runs. Elmira won the championship 7-4. Matt Schieck, the
picher for Elmira, in all their games. Mark Marrow and Troy Connor
shared the pitching for the Stouffville Storm. Great weekend
of ball!


Congratulations to Bonnie Morrow and her hard working parents
for a
very well run tournament! It was a pleasure to work with them.
A big
thanks to the Stouffville Storm for taking over as hosts at the
last
minute. Superb job! Thanks to Mike Feldbloom our UIC for the
weekend
for all his work.
