Captures OASA Provincial A Bantam Crown</bigger>
</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param>
The Stouffville Storm defeated a stubborn Waterloo club 6-3 in
the
second championship game at Waterloos Hillside Park to capture
their
centres first ever OA Bantam championship. The Storm road three
straight Saturday victories over Newmarket (9-2), Waterloo (4-3
in 8
innings) and Walkerton Capitals (3-2) to advance to Sundays
championship play. After losing a close 3-1 decision to Waterloo
the
Stouffville club claimed the gold medals with a hard fought 6-3
tournament final win over Waterloo. Bruce Cringan from the mound
and
Steven Ashbridge and Brandon Hampson sparked the Storm to their
tournament victory.
The host Hallman Twins, after three Sunday wins over Oshawa (6-4),
Walkerton (1-0) and Stouffville, faltered in the latter innings
of
the final game as they had to settle for silver medals and a
5-2
tournament record. Brendan Roach claimed all 5 pitching wins
for the
Twins while Corey Way, Braden Van Nynatten, and Evan Hetherington
lead a well balanced hitting attack. The Walkerton Capitals earned
the silver medals on the strength of wins over Stratford (9-2)
and
Napanee (10-1)and the lively bats of Adam Alexander, Tyler Kuntz
and
Kyle Bross. Oshawa Bulldogs won 2 of 4 matches; Stratford Memorials
and the Napanee Express each won a single tournament game. The
Central Frontenac Cyclones and Newmarket Stingers were 0-2. The
Express will join the Storm in representing Ontario at the Eastern
Canadians Bantam Championships in Newfoundland later in August.
The Bantam clubs are to be congratulated for their fine tournament
play, good sportsmanship and competitive spirit. The 8 clubs
gave
their fans a great weekend of OASA minor fastball competitions.
