Canadadrops International Challenge Opener in Australia

(Blacktown,Australia) – The Canadian Senior Women’s softball
team faced a big challenge inthe opening game of the International
Challenge in Blacktown, Australia earliertoday, as they faced
a very motivated Australian team playing in front of theirhome
fans. Canada put up a very strong fight, but dropped the contest
by a 1-0score.

Thegame was dominated by pitching; Danielle Lawrie (Langley,
BC) and the tandem ofZara Mee and Felicity Witt, who split the
pitching duties for Australia,matched each other inning by inning
to give the Australian fans and everyonewatching the game over
the internet at home, a very exciting contest to watch.The only
run of the game came in the top of the fourth inning when Lawrie
gaveup a solo homerun to left center field off the bat of Natalie
Titcume. 

Allthree pitchers got themselves out of tough situations throughout
the game, aseach team left runners in scoring position in three
different innings. Lawriepitched the complete game for Canada,
allowing one run on five hits and fourwalks, while compiling
eight strikeouts along the way.

LeadingCanada at the plate were Jennifer Salling (Port Coquitlam
BC) who connected witha double and a single, and Jennifer Yee
(North Delta, BC) who added twosingles. Kaleigh Rafter (Guelph,
ON) also delivered a double in the loss.

Canadawill now play China tonight (11:30pm EDT) and Australia
early tomorrow morning(4:30am EDT). 

Inother tournament action, China defeated Japan 1-0 and then
beat Australia 8-6in eight innings as they scored four runs in
the top of the extra frame.

LeCanada blanchi pour ouvrir le Challenge International en Australie

(Blacktown,Australie) – L’équipe de softball féminine senior
du Canada avait un grand défilors de leur première partie du
Challenge International à Blacktown, enAustralie plus tôt ce
matin, alors qu’elle affrontait une équipe très motivéede l’Australie
qui jouait devant leurs propres partisans. Le Canada a étécapable
de mettre un excellent effort, mais a quand même perdu par la
marque de1 à 0.

Lapartie a été dominée par les lanceuses; Danielle Lawrie (Langley,
C-B) et letandem de Zara Mee et Felicity Witt, qui ont partagé
la tâche pour l’Australie,ce sont égalé manche par manche pour
donner un spectacle excitant auxspectateurs Australiens et à
tout ceux qui ont regardé la partie via internet àla maison.
Le seul point de la partie est venu en début de quatrième manche,lorsque
Lawrie a cédé un coup circuit du bâton de Natalie Titcume.

Lestrois lanceuses se sont sorties de diverses situations difficiles
tout au longde la partie, alors que chaque équipe à laissé des
coureuses sur le deuxième outroisième coussin à trois reprises.
Lawrie a lancé la partie complète pour leCanada, accordant un
but sur cinq coups sûrs et quatres buts sur balle, tout enretirant
huit frappeuses sur des prises.

Lesmeneuses au bâton pour le Canada étaient Jennifer Salling
(Port Coquitlam, C-B)qui a connecté avec un double et un simple,
ainsi que Jennifer Yee (NorthDelta, C-B) qui a ajouté deux simples.
Kaleigh Rafter (Guelph, ON) a aussicogné un double dans la défaite.

LeCanada affrontera maintenant la Chine ce soir (23:30, heure
de l’Est) etl’Australie tôt demain matin (4:30, heure de l’Est).

Ailleursau Challenge International, la Chine est sortie vainqueurs
contre le Japon parla marque de 1-0, et a ensuite remporté un
match face à l’Australie par lamarque de 8 à 6 en huit manches
alors qu’elle a produit quatre points en débutde la manche supplémentaire.
