GIRLS RULE….FREE JUNIOR/INTERMEDIATE UMPIRE CLINIC

NORTH YORK, ON -The Softball Ontario Fast Pitch Umpire Committee
is pleased to announce agreat opportunity for 20 young female
umpires.  Open to young women aged 15 – 18 years of age, aninnovative
“GIRLS RULE” umpire clinic is being offered this spring.  Attendance
is limited to 20participants, so apply today to participate in
this great clinic. 

Due to the generosity of Canadian Association of Advancement
of Womenin Sport, the Fast Pitch Umpire Committee is extremely
pleased to offer thisclinic at no charge to the 20  successful
female applicants.  The clinic will be instructed by twoof the
country’s finest elite female umpires – Noreen Atkinson, a SoftballCanada
Level V from Georgetown, who participated in the Junior Women’s
WorldChampionship in the Netherlands last summer, and Daryl Way,
also a SoftballCanada Level V, from Brampton. Together, Noreen
and Daryl will be supervising the umpire crew at theMidget Girls
Canadian Championship to be held in Nova Scotia this August.


The “Girls Rule” clinic offers great benefits to the lucky 20
youngwomen who will have the opportunity to participate in the
May 24, 2008 clinicto be held at the Sport Alliance of Ontario
Building (the home of SoftballOntario).  In all, this free clinic
has a valueof $69.30 for each of the successful participants.
 Similar to the benefits offered by the Junior Developmentand
Intermediate clinic programs, the “Girls Rule” clinic has been
designed toaddress the concerns specific to young females participating
in the game ofsoftball in a leadership role as an umpire. The
participants will receive:

·        A six- hour, interactive clinic with Noreen Atkinson
and Daryl Way
·        Accident and Liability Insurance coverage
·        Subscription to E-newsletter – Junior Blue 
·        Softball Ontario Junior Umpire T-shirt
·        Softball Ontario Clinic Certificate 
·        “Girls Rule” T-shirt, specifically designed for this
clinic 
·        Junior Umpire Handbook and Clinic Manual 

In addition, the 20participants will receive, at no charge, Softball
Canada Rule Books.  Upon completion of this clinic, theseyoung
officials will also be able to “Stair-step” and receive the identicalbenefits
as a fully Registered and Carded Umpire.  The Stair-step program
will allow these young officials theopportunity to participate
in Member Association Qualifiers, Eliminationtournaments and
Provincial Championships including PWSA House-League Selectevents
for the 2008 season. It is hoped that a great number of young
female officialsand the Associations that support the future
of our sport will be take fulladvantage of this excellent clinic
