Canadapushes United States to the Limit

(OklahomaCity, OK) – Team Canada gave the Americans a run for
their money this afternoonin International softball action at
the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in OklahomaCity, OK. After falling
behind 4-1 after four innings, Canada manufactured fourruns to
take a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the sixth, but Crystl Bustosconnected
with a two out, three-run homerun to put the game out of reach,
asthe United States escaped with a 9-5.

Inaddition to an always entertaining Canada/United States matchup,
it was also agame where both teams showed their support for breast
cancer awareness day, as theAmericans wore pink uniforms for
the occasion. For their part, Canada waslinked to a London, Ontario
breast cancer survivor group, the Rowbust DragonBoat Racing Team
(www.rowbustdragonboat.com),who make significant contributions
in helping those affected by breast cancerachieve the highest
quality of life.  

Onceagain, Canada got off to a good start by scoring a run in
the top of the firstinning. The red and white quickly loaded
the bases following a walk by MelanieMatthews (Surrey, BC), an
infield single by Erin McLean (Whitby, ON) and afielder’s choice
by Jennifer Yee (North Delta, BC). Sheena Lawrick (Calgary,AB)
opened the scoring by delivering a one out RBI single, but that
was allCanada could muster as they stranded the bases loaded.

TheAmericans replied with a run of their own in the bottom of
the first, and addedthree more in the bottom of the fourth to
take a 4-1 lead. However, Canada drewthree consecutive walks
in their half of the fifth to load the bases again withonly one
out. Yee then stroked a run-scoring single, and Matthews tookadvantage
of a wild pitch to cross the plate before Alison Bradley (Pinkerton,ON)
delivered a key two-run single to give Canada a 5-4 lead.

Thatlead would stand until the bottom of the sixth inning, when
the United Statesloaded the bases and tied the game on a passed
ball, and then took a 6-5 leadon a sacrifice fly. Crystl Bustos
then secured the win with her three-runblast.

JenniferSalling (Port Coquitlam, BC), McLean, Yee, Lawrick and
Bradley each had a hit,while the team also drew five walks. In
the pitcher’s circle, Lauren Bay Regula(Trail, BC) began the
game and allowed one run on four hits in two innings anda third,
striking out three batters. Danielle Lawrie (Langley, BC) relievedRegula
for two and two third innings, allowing five runs on three hits
and fivewalks. Dione Meier (Saskatoon, SK) also pitched the two
final outs andsurrendered the three-run homerun.

Canadawill return to action on Friday, June 13th when they travel
toChicago, IL to take on the Chicago Bandits of the National
ProfessionalFastpitch (NPF) league for a four-game series.

LeCanada pousse les États-Unis à la limite

(OklahomaCity, OK) – Les américaines ont eu chaud cet après-midi
lorsque l’équipenationale canadienne leur a donné de la difficulté
dans une partie de softballInternationale tenue au Stade du Temple
de la renommée de l’ASA à OklahomaCity, OK. Après avoir tombé
de l’arrière par la marque de 4 à 1 après quatremanches, le Canada
a produit quatre points pour prendre une avance de 5-4jusqu’en
fin de sixième manche. Toutefois, Crystl Bustos a cogné un circuit
detrois points avec deux retraits pour assurer la victoire des
États-Unis par lamarque de 9 à 5.

Enplus d’une partie toujours intéressante entre le Canada et
les États-Unis, lesdeux équipes ont aussi démontré leur support
pour la journée de sensibilisationdu cancer du sein, alors que
les américaines ont porté des uniformes roses pourl’occasion.
Pour leur part, le Canada était lié à un groupe de survivantes
ducancer du sein de London, Ontario, l’équipe de course bateau-dragon
Rowbust (www.rowbustdragonboat.com), quifait des contributions
significatives pour aider celles affectées par le cancerdu sein
à maintenir un style de vie de haute qualité.   

Encoreune fois, le Canada a commencé la partie du bon pied en
marquant un point dèsle début de la prochaine manche. Le rouge
et blanc a rapidement rempli lescoussins suivant une but accordé
à Melanie Matthews (Surrey, C-B), un simple dubâton d’Erin McLean
(Whitby, ON) et un choix du voltigeur par Jennifer Yee(North
Delta, C-B). Sheena Lawrick (Calgary, AB) a ensuite ouvert le
pointageen délivrant un simple avec un retrait pour pousser le
premier point au marbre,mais c’est tout ce que le Canada a été
capable de faire, alors qu’ils ontlaissé les coussins remplis.

Lesaméricaines ont répliqué avec un point de leur part en fin
de première manche,et elles en ont ajouté trois autres en fin
de quatrième pour prendre lesdevants 4 à 1. Toutefois, le Canada
a forcé trois buts sur balles consécutifsen début de cinquième
pour remplir les buts encore une fois avec un seulretrait. Yee
a ensuite cogné un simple d’un point, et Matthews a pris avantaged’un
mauvais lancer pour croiser le marbre avant qu’Alison Bradley
(Pinkerton,ON) a délivré un coup sûr clé de deux points pour
donner l’avance au Canada, 5à 4.

Cetteavance a duré jusqu’en fin de sixième manche, lorsque les
États-Unis ont rempliles coussins et ont égalé la marque sur
un mauvais lancer, prenant ensuitel’avance de 6à 5 sur un ballon
sacrifice. Crystl Bustos a ensuite assuré lavictoire aves son
circuit de trois points.

JenniferSalling (Port Coquitlam, C-B), McLean, Yee, Lawrick et
Bradley ont chacunrécolté un coup sûr, alors que l’équipe a forcé
cinq buts sur balles. Dans lecercle des lanceuses, Lauren Bay
Regula (Trail, C-B) a commencé la partie,accordant un point sur
quatre coups sûrs en deux manches et deux tiers detravail, tout
en retirant trois frappeuses sur des prises. Danielle Lawrie(Langley,
C-B) est venue en relève de Regula pour deux et deux tiers manches,accordant
cinq points sur trois coups sûrs et cinq buts sur balles. Dione
Meier(Saskatoon, SK) a aussi lancé les deux derniers retraits,
ainsi que le coupcircuit de trois points.

L’équipecanadienne retournera en action le vendredi, 13 juin
alors qu’elle voyagera àChicago, IL pour affronter les Bandits
de Chicago de la ligue NationalProfessional Fastpitch (NPF) dans
une série de quatre matchs.
