Canada takes 6-1 Pro Tour win over Chicago

(Chicago, IL) – The Canadian Senior Women’s NationalSoftball
Team continued its winning ways last night with a 6-1 win over
theChicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league.
The red and whitewas propelled by a 4-for-4 performance by Sheena
Lawrick (Calgary, AB), threehomeruns and a solid pitching tandem
of Lauren Bay Regula (Trail, BC) and DioneMeier (Saskatoon, SK).

Canada struck first in the top of the second inning whenLawrick
connected with a leadoff solo homerun to give Canada the early
1-0lead. In the fourth, Lawrick continued to swing her hot bat,
leading off theinning with a double to left field and later scored
on a single by ErinCumpstone (Saskatoon, SK).

After Chicago cut the lead in half in the bottom half of thefourth,
Erin McLean (Whitby, ON) hit a solo homerun of her own in the
fifth,followed by back-to-back singles by Jennifer Yee (North
Delta, BC) and JenniferSalling (Port Coquitlam, BC). Lawrick
then ripped another double down the thirdbase line, allowing
Yee to score from second base. Two innings later, Sallingput
the game out of reach in the top of the seventh with a two-run
homerun.

In the pitcher’s circle, Bay Regula allowed one run on threehits,
striking out four batters in four innings of work to earn the
win. Meiercame on in relief in the bottom of the fifth, allowing
two hits and a walk togo along with four strikeouts in three
innings.

Canada unleashed a 12 hit attack against the Bandits, led byLawrick’s
four-for-four game (one single, two doubles and one homerun).
McLean,Yee and Salling each collected two hits for Canada, while
Kaleigh Rafter (Guelph,ON) and Cumpstone each added a single.

The two teams will square off again this afternoon (3:05pmCDT)

Le Canada remporte une victoire de 6-1face à Chicago

(Chicago, IL) – L’équipe nationale desoftball senior féminine
du Canada a continué ses habitudes gagnantes hier soiravec une
victoire de 6 à 1 sur les Bandits de Chicago de la ligue National
ProFaspitch (NPF). Le rouge et blanc a été propulsé par une performance
de quatrecoups sûrs de Sheena Lawrick (Calgary, AB), trois coups
circuits et un duosolide de lanceuses consistant de Lauren Bay
Regula (Trail, C-B) et Dione Meier(Saskatoon, SK).

Le Canada a ouvert le pointage en début dedeuxième manche lorsque
Lawrick a claqué un coup circuit pour donner une avancede 1 à
0 à son équipe. En quatrième manche, Lawrick a continué sa dominance
aubâton, commençant la manche avec un double au champ gauche
et a croisé lemarbre sur un simple d’Erin Cumpstone (Saskatoon,
SK).

Après que Chicago à été capable de réduirel’écart en moitié en
fin de quatrième manche, Erin McLean (Whitby, ON) a cognéun circuit
d’un point, suivi d’une paire de simples consécutifs des bâtons
deJennifer Yee (North Delta, C-B) et Jennifer Salling (Port Coquitlam,
C-B).Lawrick s’est ensuite présenté au bâton encore une fois,
délivrant un autredouble le long de la ligne du troisième but
pour permettre à Yee de marquer dudeuxième but. Deux manches
plus tard, Salling a mis la partie hors de portée enclaquant
un circuit de deux points.

Dans le cercle des lanceuses, Bay Regula aaccordé un point sur
trois coups sûrs, retirant quatre frappeuses sur desprises en
quatre manches de travail pour mériter la victoire. Meier est
venueen relève en fin de cinquième, accordant deux coups sûrs
et un but sur ballesainsi que quatre retraits au bâton en trois
manches.

Le Canada a explosé pour 12 coups sûrscontre les Bandits, mené
par la performance de quatre-en-quatre de Lawrick (unsimple,
deux doubles et un circuit). McLean, Yee, et Salling on chacun
récoltédeux coups sûrs, alors que Kaleigh Rafter (Guelph, ON)
et Cumpstone ont chacunajouté un simple.

Les deux équipes s’affronteront encore unefois cet après-midi
(15:05 heure centrale) lors de la troisième rencontre s’unesérie
