SeniorWomen collect seventh win of Pro Tour8-4            

 

(Rockford,IL) – Impending rain showers held off long enough for
the Senior Women’sNational Team to claim an 8-4 victory over
the Rockford Thunder this afternoonat Player’s Park. In the fourth
game of the series between the two teamsJennifer Yee (North Delta,
BC) registered six RBIs and two homeruns.

 

TeamCanada started its eighth game of the Pro Tour in an uncharacteristically
slowmanner. Though neither team managed to get a single hit in
the first twoinnings, it was the Senior Women who came out swinging
in the third. Looking tomake up for lost time, the squad was
able to rack in four runs, the first ofwhich came when Kaleigh
Rafter (Guelph,ON) was batted in by Erin McLean(Whitby, ON).
With two teammates waiting on base, Yee hit a game-alteringhomerun
that advanced the score to 4-0 for Canada.

 

Despitethe three runs earned by the opponent in the bottom of
the third inning, thenational team continued to add to its lead.
In the fourth inning, after beingstruck by a wild pitch, catcher
Erin Cumpstone (Saskatoon, SK) secured a run ona centre field
drive by Melanie Matthews (Surrey, BC).

 

Fromthen onwards, Canada’s pitching trio of Lauren Bay Regula
(Trail, BC), RobinMackin (Newmarket, ON) and Danielle Lawrie
(Langley, BC) were integral insustaining the team’s lead. While
Rockford’s batters were shut down, Canadacontinued to experience
success. In the sixth inning of play, with McLean onfirst and
Matthews on second, Yee knocked another one out of the park.
Thehomerun allowed for another three easy runs and rounded out
the final score to8-4.

 

TeamCanada will look to prolong its winning streak when it meets
the Akron Racerson June 26, 2008 at 7:05 p.m. CDT at Firestone
Stadium.
