Canada drops 10-2 decision to Racers

(Akron, OH) – Despite a valiant effort, the SeniorWomen lost
their second game of the Pro Tour tonight against the Akron Racersby
a score of 10-2. The Racers had everything to prove after surrendering
ano-hitter to Canada on June 25th and gained an insurmountable
leadearly on in the second meeting between the teams. 

After a scoreless first inning for the red andwhite, the Racers
saw the opportunity to take control of the scoreboard and didjust
that. Four consecutive walks by Canada quickly resulted in two
Racers runsby Noelle Dickson and India Chiles in the first inning.
The 2-0 deficit onlygrew larger from there, as Kristen Butler
homered in the third.

Though Jennifer Yee (North Delta, BC) and veteranMelanie Matthews
(Surrey, BC) were each able to register a hit of their own, itwould
not be enough to keep the opponent at bay. In the bottom of the
fourth,the Racers came up big with three more runs after a few
wild pitches werethrown.

Luckily, Dione Meier (Saskatoon, SK), whoreplaced Danielle Lawrie
(Langley, BC) after three innings of play, struck outall three
Akron batters in the fifth and re-energized her squad. With thisnew-found
momentum, Canada’s Yee notched a homerun and two-run double for
herself and Erin McLean (Whitby, ON).

The two runs recorded by the SeniorWomen were simply inadequate
in this one-sided match, as Akron would protectthe victory with
another four runs in the final inning to advance the score to10-2.

Team Canada will look to regain itspresence against the Akron
Racers in a double-header tomorrow, June 28, 2008 at10:00a.m.
and 2:00p.m.CDT. The afternoon game will be recorded and by FoxSports
News (FSN) and broadcast on July 3rd.
