Canada’s bats go silent in 5-1 semi-final lossto Australia

(Kitchener, ON) – Australian pitcher TanyaHarding held the Canadian
Senior Women’s National Team to only three hitsas the Aussies
took a measure of revenge on the red and white with a 5-1 win.
Canadahad beaten Australia 8-2 in the first game of the round-robin.
The losseliminated Canada from the Tri Nations Cup, as Australia
moved on to theChampionship game to face Japan.

Australia opened the scoring in the top of the thirdinning, when
Kerry Wyborn smacked a two-out RBI triple out of MeganTimpf’s
(Port Dover, ON) reach in right field. However, most of thedamage
came in the top of the fifth, when Stacey Porter smacked a three-runhomerun
to right field, immediately followed by a solo blast by NatalieTitcume.
Canada showed signs of life in the bottom of the inning when
leadoffhitter Alison Bradley (Pinkerton, ON) reached on an error
and Kaleigh Rafter(Guelph, ON) walked. Erin Cumpstone (Saskatoon,
SK) later ripped an RBI singleup the middle to push Bradley home.
However, Canada was unable to get anythingelse going.

Starting pitcher Lauren Bay Regula (Trail, BC) threwtwo flawless
innings without giving a hit, striking out two batters. RobinMackin
(Newmarket, ON) had a difficult outing, allowing five runs on
six hitsin two and one third innings of work. Danielle Lawrie
(Langley, BC) followedwith one and two thirds innings of hitless
relief, before Dione Meier(Saskatoon, SK) mopped up the final
inning, allowing one hit.

Erin Cumpstone collected a pair of singles for Canada,while Sheena
Lawrick (Calgary, AB) added a double in the seventh inning forCanada’s
only hits.

All three teams will participate at the Canada Cupfrom July 12-20
in Surrey, BC.

Les bâtons canadiens tombent silencieux dans unedéfaite de 5
à 1 contre l’Australie 

(Kitchener, ON) – La lanceuse australienne TanyaHarding a tenu
l’équipe nationale senior féminine du Canada à seulementtrois
coups sûrs alors que l’Australie a pris une mesure de revanche
surle rouge et blanc avec une victoire de 5 à 1. Le Canada avait
battul’Australie 8 à 2 lors de la première partie de la ronde
préliminaire. Ladéfaite a éliminé le Canada de la Coupe Trois
Nations, alors quel’Australie a disputé la grande finale avec
le Japon.

L’Australie a ouvert le pointage en début detroisième manche
lorsque Kerry Wyborn a produit un point sur un triple avecdeux
retraits hors de la portée de Megan Timp (Port Dover, ON) au
champ droit.Toutefois, la plupart du dommage est venu en début
de cinquième, lorsque StaceyPorter a claqué un circuit de trois
points au champ droit, immédiatement suivipar une longue balle
de Natalie Titcume au champ gauche. Le Canada a démontréun signe
de vie en fin de manche lorsque la première frappeuse Alison
Bradley(Pinkerton, ON) a franchi les sentiers sur une erreur
et Kaleigh Rafter(Guelph, ON) a forcé un but sur balles. Erin
Cumpstone (Saskatoon, SK) a plustard cogné un simple d’un point
au champ centre pour pousser Bradley aumarbre. Toutefois, le
Canada a été incapable de faire autre chose.

La lanceuse partante Lauren Bay Regula (Trail, C-B) alancé deux
excellentes manches sans accorder de coup sûr, retirant deuxfrappeuses
sur des prises. Robin Mackin (Newmarket, ON) a eu une sortiedifficile,
accordant les cinq points sur six coups sûrs en deux manches
et untiers de travail. Danielle Lawrie (Langley, C-B) a suivi
avec une manche etdeux tiers de relève sans coup sûr, avant que
Dione Meier (Saskatoon, SK) alancé la dernière manche en accordant
un coup sûr.

Erin Cumpstone a accumulé deux simples pour le Canada,alors que
Sheena Lawrick (Calgary, AB) a ajouté un double en septième manchepour
les seuls coups sûrs du Canada.

Les trois équipes participeront à la Coupe du Canadadu 12 au
20 juillet à Surre, C-B.
