CAAWS' 2009 WISEFUND 

NORTHYORK, ONTARIO- Softball Ontario is pleased to distribute
information to femalesoftball enthusiasts across Ontario about
the Canadian Association for theAdvancement of Women and Sport
and Physical Activity (CAAWS) WISEFund. TheWISE Fund was created
to help sponsor female sport initiatives and assistmembers of
the sport community in Canada. Since 2004, CAAWS has supported
56individuals and organizations through this Fund, dispersing
over $48,000 tomembers of the sport community.  For 2009 CAAWS
will provide twelve (12)grants in the amount of $900 each to
girls and women and/or organizationsoffering sport programs targeted
to girls and women who meet the grantcriteria.

To be eligible for a WISE Fundgrant, applicants must meet the
following criteria and fit into one of the twocategories: 

Category: Coach/Official/Sport Administrator
• are a female coach,official, sport administrator, instructor,
volunteer, teacher who isinteracting with girls and women in
a sport AND/OR; 
• have NCCPcoaching certification or are in the process of completing
it AND/OR; 
• have an affiliation with a provincial sport organization SoftballOntario/Provincial
Women’s Softball or national sport organization SoftballCanada
or a 
  multi-sport organization (example: CoachingAssociation of Canada)
 or work/volunteer for a club/team who is a memberof one previously
mentioned 

Category: Organization
• are representing a club orteam that has an affiliation with
a provincial or national sport organizationSoftball Ontario,
Provincial Women’sSoftball                   
  Association/Softball Canada AND/OR; 
• are applying onbehalf of a provincial sport organization Softball
Ontario/Provincial Women’sSoftball  or national sport organization
Softball Canadaor  
  multi-sport organization (example: CoachingAssociation of Canada)
who has a partnership affiliation indirectly ordirectly with
Sport Canada AND/OR; 
• are a community-based orschool sports group (such as a club
or team) AND/OR; 
• are planningto use the WISE Fund grant for an initiative (new
or existing) intended toprovide opportunities for girls and women
to participate insport              
  and/or intended to promote sport to girls and women

Grant monies can be used forequipment, league/team fees, promotion/marketing
of a program/event that istargeted to girls and women, professional
development or professionalcertification, a clinic or skills
day, etc. The WISE Fund is not intended tohelp offset costs related
to post-secondary education, such as tuition fees,housing costs,
etc. Due to restrictions on the funding received from SportCanada,
the WISE Fund is also not intended to support physical activityprojects
and recreational initiatives.CAAWS has set the following deadlines
for selectingshort-listed candidates and for the announcement
of the winners. The followingdeadlines will be in effect for
the 2009 version of the WISE Fund:

November21, 2008 to December 12, 2008 - CAAWS acceptsapplications
for the 2009 version of the WISE Fund. 
December13, 2008 to January 9, 2009 – CAAWS reviewsapplications
and notifies short-listed candidates that they have moved intothe
next round of the selection process. If applicants have not heard
fromCAAWS by January 9th, most likely the application has not
been short-listed.
January 9, 2009 to January 30, 2009 –Short-listed candidates
provide additional application information to CAAWS;WISE Fund
selection committee reviews applications and selects winners.
February13, 2009 – CAAWS announces 2009 WISE FundRecipients
