Robin Mackin Retires From the National Team Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 10th, 2010

(Ottawa, ON) After being a part of the Canadian Women's National
Team Program from 2005 to 2008, pitcher Robin Mackin (Newmarket,
ON) has announced her retirement from the sport of softball.
Following her participation at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing,
Mackin underwent shoulder surgery in 2009 and returned to NCAA
play in 2010, but further complications have led to her decision
to retire from the sport.

'It was an incredibly difficult decision as it is very hard to
prematurely end my softball career' stated Mackin. 'It is unfortunate
that things did not work out the way that I intended, but I will
embrace the opportunities that lay ahead of me and be grateful
for the experiences that I have shared as a member of Team Canada.'

Mackin began her National Team involvement in 2005 as a member
of the Elite team, and made the jump to the Senior team the following
year, helping Canada capture a silver medal at the Canada Cup
and qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games with a fifth place finish
at the ISF XI Women's World Championship. In 2007, she won a
silver medal at the XV Pan American Games and a gold medal at
the XXIV Summer Universiade. She then participated in the 2008
Olympic Summer Games in Beijing, where Canada finished fourth.

'It saddens me to think that I will no longer be suiting up in
a Canadian uniform as this is one of the greatest feelings I
will ever experience' added Mackin. 'I am very thankful to Softball
Canada for the opportunities they provided me. There is nothing
more rewarding than representing your country in a game that
you love. I have been a member of the Canadian National Softball
Team since the age of 17, and during those years I have been
fortunate enough to experience the World University Games, Canada
Cup, World Championship, Pan American Games and an Olympics.
The experience has been everything that I have ever dreamed it
to be, and there is no prouder moment than being able to wear
the Canadian jersey on the world stage. I will carry these memories
with me for the rest of my life.'

Softball Canada would like to thank Robin for her years of commitment
to the Women's National Team Program, and wishes her the best
of luck in all of her future endeavours.
