NCAA Collegiate Player of the Year Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 2nd, 2010

Danielle Lawrie wins second consecutive USA Softball National
Collegiate Player of the Year Award

(Oklahoma City, OK) Softball Canada is very pleased to announce
that Danielle Lawrie (Langley, BC), a 2008 Canadian Softball
Olympian and Senior Women's National Team member, has been awarded
the prestigious 9th Annual USA Softball National Collegiate Player
of the Year award. Lawrie plays for the University of Washington
- along with fellow Canadian National Team member Jenn Salling
(Port Coquitlam, BC) - and the team will participate in the 2010
Women's College World Series (WCWS) in Oklahoma City. The Huskies
are the defending WCWS Series Champions, and Lawrie was also
named the Collegiate Player of the Year last year.

Lawrie has compiled a 40-3 record with an earned run average
of 1.00 heading into the WCWS, and has accumulated 448 strikeouts
against only 41 walks in 288.1 innings pitched. Her 24 shutouts
led the NCAA and broke her own school record, and she ranks in
the top five in the United States in strikeouts, earned run average,
walks per seven innings and strikeouts per seven innings. Over
her NCAA career, she has notched a total of 1,843 strikeouts,
which ranks fourth in all-time NCAA history. She also holds seven
of ten school pitching record at the University of Washington.

In addition to her tremendous success in the pitcher's circle,
Lawrie also contributed heavily at the plate this season, leading
the Huskies with 15 homeruns, 57 runs batted in and a .616 slugging
percentage.

The other finalists for the award were Team Canada teammate Jennifer
Yee (North Delta, BC) from Georgia Tech and Megan Langenfeld
(Bakersfield, California) from UCLA. Lawrie is only the second
player to win the award twice, as past winners include Cat Osterman
(three times), Stacey Nuveman and Monica Abbott, as well as Jessica
Van der Linden and Angela Tincher. Lawrie is the only Canadian
to win the award.
