Canada Defeats Ecuador 8-0; Remains Undefeated<br>
November 29th, 2005<br><br>
(OTTAWA) Canada defeated Ecuador 8-0 in five innings at the VI Pan
American Softball <br>
Championship to remain undefeated in the round robin portion of the
tournament. Canada <br>
has one game remaining in the round robin, tomorrow morning (Wednesday
November 30th) <br>
against Mexico. Mexico will not be an easy task as they are
fighting for a playoff <br>
spot. Canada has clinched first place in Pool B and ensures itself
a double life in the <br>
playoff round.<br><br>
Ashley Lanz (Winnipeg, MB) earned her second win of the tournament in
style throwing a <br>
perfect game. She allowed no hits, no runs, no walks and struck out
four Mexican <br>
batters.<br><br>
Janiva Willis (Irishtown, NB) led the way at the plate going 3-3 with two
singles, one <br>
double and three RBIs. <br><br>
Canada got going early; in the first inning Canada recorded three
runs. With Sheena <br>
Lawrick on base, Tamra Howren hit a bloop to center field that scored
Lawrick on the <br>
fielder’s error. Megan Timpf followed up with an RBI single that
brought Howren home. <br>
Willis hit a double scoring Timpf.<br><br>
Canada would add three runs in the second inning and two more in the
third inning to <br>
make the final score 8-0.<br><br>
